Help remove pen stain

Hi Everyone,

On a visit to the States last week I bought my first Michael Kors handbag. I was sooo excited as had spent months thinking about the purchase. On return home I filled the bag with cotton towels so it would keep it safe. I left the bag in my study room & that was it. Well, I'm just about to start my day of research & thought if look at my beautiful bag & unfortunately there is a black pen mark on one side. I've no idea how this happened but it did. I'm remaining calm as I know the ladies here can advise on stains. My bag is white leather so any advice welcome.

Hi, I'm really sorry about the pen mark. What pen do you think it is? I know a tPFer here removed most of makeup-stains inside a LV pouch with makeup-remover pads/wipes.

If it's an ink-pen mark lifting the mark with a q-tip (a little hairspray on the q-tip) could work.

But I'd first see if the pen mark is just on the surface before trying any wet removing.

Hope you can remove the mark.

Thanks Elliespurse, the pen seems to be a bic biro mark. I will have to pop to the chemist at lunch time and get some hairspray. Fingers crossed :) I've learned a valuable lesson though that is my next handbag will not be white.

Hi Everyone,

I tried hairspray using a cue tip & although it looks like it will remove pen it is leaving a stain on the leather (blue blue around area I've used cue tip). Any other suggestions-now I'm beginning to get upset :(

Update on my handbag - I ended up bringing it to leather specialist - he not certain if can remove stain so fingers crossed. If he doesn't get the stain out will have to think of some camouflage ideas-perhaps a nice scarf to cover mark.

Thanks for the update, I hope he can remove the stain.

I've seen many brands uses a colored leather polish for the final finish of the bag (the colored polish comes off when applying a conditioner). Perhaps this would help to cover the stain?

Kiwi makes white cover-up polish for white sneakers. If the bag is true white this might work but I would only use it very sparingly because it might rub off on your clothes/stuff.

Thanks so much, I had not thought of colored polish-makes me feel a bit better. I won't get the bag back until next week but will let you know. Again, thanks for your help 😀

Apologies for late reply. The leather specialist was not a specialist! He removed the ink and painted over it with white paint. The bag is a very light cream & the white stands out a mile. I was shocked with how sloppy the repair was, honestly, I would have done better myself. When I got home my husband bought some clear polish, I rubbed it gently on the white paint & it has removed some of it. I'm going to try some cream polish to see will that help tone if down. I don't mean to be dramatic but I feel like the bag is ruined, the stain is noticeable & I just don't feel love for the bag anymore, I almost dislike the bag now-I am taking this personal 😊 On a positive note I've learned a valuable lesson.

I'm sorry this has happened and hope your bag isn't totally ruined. Some people can be such idiots! White on a cream bag?!?!

so sorry to hear. this is why I dont just any average repair shops. There are some well established places that should be able to fix this - PM me if you want some suggestions.

Thank you for your message. I decided to send my bag to the handbag clinic in the UK - I found recommendations here for the place so hopefully they will be able to remove the stain. I will upload before and after photographs when I get my bag back at the end of this month. Fingers crossed :sweatdrop:
