Hi all,

Recently I got my very first quota bag while traveling. It is a mini Kelly in etoupe, PHW, and epsom leather. The thing is, I actually wanted a B25 but unfortunately, I wasn’t allocated one. Hence, I was offered a mini Kelly instead. I’ve always had a preference for GHW but this was the only one they had and I was flying out the next day. Anyway, fast forward to today, I am seriously contemplating trading my mini Kelly with a Birkin25 from a reseller. I’m considering the colors Chai, Gold, Etoupe with GHW. I haven’t decided if I prefer the sellier or the retourne yet but that isn’t very important. I would like some advice from you guys. Should I do a trade for a B25 or should I keep the mini K? My fear is that since it’s very difficult to get a mini K in store, I may not be able to get another one. Please help! I’m in such a huge dilemma!

so, you really want a B25
you can use your mini Kelly as collateral to have one
so why not!

but, does it matter if you can't get a mini Kelly?
do you want a mini Kelly or not?
if know that you do, then you should keep it and not use it to fund the Birkin

This would be a proper example of an investment purchase - buying a premium item when an opportunity arises, with a view to long-term use - not for future 'financial' increase.

It’s your call. i think there is an enormous difference, and I prefer the Birkin sellier to the Birkin retourne. But, I’m not fond of the mini K personally. It‘s not my style, and I personally think the tide is turning towards slightly larger bags. I’m also not all that practical; don’t need to crossbody; and prefer handheld. Having said that I usually hold the minority opinion on TPF.

IMO, many people get a B25 bc it’s a bit more scarce and then they realize too late that it’s not their taste or lifestyle.
Hardware is also generally a deal breaker for me, and I personally would not trade a bag with a reseller.

IMO if you think you may not be offered a mini K again and adore the mini K style, above and beyond the PHW, or even if you are not sure, then don‘t do it

ETA: I do agree 100% with @WhiteBus that, in general, that the crux of the matter is to determine what you really want. All things being equal (and authentic), people should only just get what they really want; so seize the day

Note: the B25 is more popular now bc it seems like there are fewer of them than K25 or minis, but H production lags somewhat behind popular opinion, and I’m sure it wont be long before there are more.

Hi all, I’ve checked with the reseller that I can trade the mini k one to one for a chai B25 GHW Togo. For the gold or etoupe togo with GHW, I have to top up some money. Is this a rip off? I’ve always been under the impression that the mini k is more desirable in the reseller market? Thanks

B25 is likely more rare these days since production moved to mini Kelly’s to address the demand. Regardless, a reseller is going to try to make several thousand on this transaction one way or another so while they may sell for around the same price tag from the reseller, she isn’t going to want to clean swap as she just lost the opportunity cost of selling whatever you are trading for. It’s silly for her to do two transactions for the profit of one.

I think you've gotta decide which bag you really want and then get it, regardless of any consideration about availability and a bit extra money (provided you can afford it). These bags are too expensive to be anything less than 100% happy with them.

Keep this one. I think it's precious. And take your time hunting for the B25. I don't like buying and selling so soon. Sometimes a bag grows on you, that's when regret happens if you move too fast. That's been my experience.
Could you please share your experience of buying and selling so soon and regretting it? Thanks!

honestly from the beginning I want the B25. I just wasn’t offered one. I definitely “settled” for the mini k

I actually feel I would wear the b25 much more than the mini k because if the size of course and I personally love the b more than the k. From the beginning I asked for a b but just wasn’t offered one. I understand authenticity issues of trading. Sigh it’s so tough

This is so subjective; I don't think anyone here can definitively tell you what to do here..

Do you like the MK? Will you use it?

Are you in a huge rush for a B25? Obviously, QB offer cadence is not guaranteed, but can you wait until you can just buy a B25 from your boutique in the future? I would imagine it isn't as if this is the one offer you'll receive in your lifetime. Would it make sense to be patient and continue to maintain your relationship with your SA, and in the meantime make it very clear specifically which bag you are after? B25s are out there.. I've had multiple offered to me by my SA. I think actually sometimes she believes it's the only style I like. Oh well.

Tough call. This is my humble opinion but I would never go through a reseller. I just don't trust them. Do you see yourself potentially owning both at some point and would you be happy with the mini k in the meanwhile? I would have a hard time parting with the mini k and it's not even my preferred size lol! (I have a b30 and a k25 retourne - I am too tall for the tiny bags). I see the argument for not spending that kind of money on something you don't totally love, but I wonder if it may grow on you - plus it does make a super cute evening bag.

Then trade the MK.
get what you want.
A Mini Kelly costs less in the boutique than a B25 ..(This is my understanding but I haven't enquired about either bag because I like larger bags) so I wouldn't be surprise if the reseller wants you to pay a little extra to secure the B25 of your dreams.

In 2007, I purchased my first 32 gold kelly by simply walking into the South Coast Plaza. But I really wanted a 30 birkin in etoupe. So I opted for a trade through a reseller. Turned in my brand new kelly with receipt for a lightly used 5 year old birkin and upped some money.

I don't think it's a fair trade in hindsight. She made money on both sides. I think keeping the kelly would have been fine. Etoupe birkin I could have waited for another time. There was no rush. It was all in my head.

Well, you gain in experience by losing money.
