So, my SA has created the basics of my wishlist and told me that she will let me know if any bags come in. My original bag was a B30 with gold or palladium hardware, but seeing the Kelly 28 in action I like that one as well I love pops of colors in blues and greens (think Bleu Zanzibar, Bleu Hydra, Vert Verone, and Vert Jade) along with the neutrals like Gold, Black, and Gris Mouette. I tend to wear black, grey, white, tan, and blues. How did you pick out the colors for your first Hermes bag? I want it to be amazing because I know how expensive they are.

I guess it's neutrals vs pop , what do you want as your first (or only ) bag?
What will you get more use out of?
Which one brings more joy?
Do you have or plan to get other bags?
Maybe get a cheaper bag in a pop of color to satisfy that desire but keep the Hermes as a neutral?
I have Chanel handbags in various black, grey, and tan shades. I use those quite frequently as I don't really have handbags in pop colors. I am a homebody by nature, along with having a crap ton of health issues, so I will go out every so often to hang with friends. Otherwise, I tend to go to medical appointments. I think that I am leaning toward a more pop color or at least a color that might help bridge the gap between pop and neutral like Bleu de Prusse. It's so hard to pick because I have no idea what a specific color might look like in different lights. I definitely have a plan to get other bags. At least one or two more at minimum.

Expensive - yes.
So do you want I bag that you will enjoy looking at and knowing that you have, but won't want to use for fear of it getting worn?
Or do you want a bag that you are going to get your 'cost per wear' monies worth out of?
Two basic questions that only you can answer.

If the former, it really does not matter what you buy - you will love owning it and appreciate it.
If the latter, you have got to decide which style is best for you, because they are very different - this is not about cerulean belts - a Kelly is a smart, dressy handbag; a Birkin is a very expensive tote.
Colour will then depend on your style and usual wardrobe choices.

I want a handbag that I will wear for years. I am not a fan of just getting handbags to have them sit in my closet and are only there to be looked at. I want a handbag that is made exceptionally and to last. I have both strapped handbags and totes. In fact, those are the styles that I almost exclusively use. I think that I am leaning more toward the Birkin as my first bag just because I already have more bags like the Kelly and I tend to put a bunch of stuff in my bags, but to me it all depends on how much they can fit and how they look on my body. That is the other thing that I am wondering. I am only 4' 10" but am curvy, so I have no clue how the purses are going to look on me. I don't want them to look like suitcases against my body.

Think about colours in YOUR wardrobe. It's not always about pop v neutral, it's which pop or which neutral. The right shade of red or blue can be worn with almost everything, so can the right shade of brown or grey.

BTW, the more specific you get with colours the harder it may be for your SA to match your request, it may be better to say 'bright blues or blue-leaning greens' rather than mention bright blue/green exact names.

I would ask to try on some models, if you can. If that's not possible perhaps visit a reseller to try some on.

As for colors there are multiple wonderful threads on colors. I think @papertiger is spot on with this:

There is a nice thread on H colors that serve as neutrals but aren't black, grey, gold, beige. These colors are wonderful options IMO. I'll try to link it.

Most of all I think you will "know" when you see the bag you love. I didn't think I wanted a second Gold bag after my Gold Birkin, but when I saw a Gold Kelly PHW it was "the one" for me, even against the Raisin I was offered at the same time (which was the color I had requested). To this day it is one of my favorite and most used bags.

An H SA told me before to pick the bag in your favorite color or the same color that you carry daily for your first B. Why? Because no matter what happens, even if you have a dozen of that same color already, you will always pick that same color---because it is your favorite/preferred color. And you'd be glad that your B is in that color. I am glad I followed her advice. I got a noir at that time. I have neutrals and pops of color at this point, and I love them all. But if there was one choice, it would be a neutral one for me. There will be days that you don't feel upbeat, and you don't want the attention. There will be times that you need a conservative color. If you chose a noir/black or any "neutral color", you could use it in a restaurant, going to a funeral, travelling, in the office etc. However, if you only had one and you chose lime, then its use might be limited. Black and lime are both nice. You can use neutral colors almost anywhere, but for pops of color, that is not the case. I noticed too that when one travels, pops of color get Customs' attention more.....and you certainly don't want that kind of attention from them! But of course, it is your bag.....so pick what you love.

I had the same questions as you did and tend to wear the same colours as you listed. I went with black. Unpopular opinion perhaps but that is to ensure that I can wear it forever, in all seasons, with all my wardrobe colours (nothing better in summer than white linen pants, black top or black flats, IMO, contrary to popular belief of no black in summer).

If it helps, here’s my lengthier deliberation of my Hermes bags - Capsule collection #143

For me my SA knows I like green after picking up an Evelyn in Vert Cypress. And I got my K28 in Vert de Gris. Subsequently a mini Evelyn in Anemones and C19 in Havana. Finally a noir B30. All the colours about to match my wardrobe:)
