Thank you for the suggestion. I doubt that my local cobblers would be able to reglaze the strap with the right matching shade though. I'd better be safe than sorry.

Understood! It's not worth the risk of ruining the bag - better to pay the premium with Gucci. I will report back once they contact me with a quote!

Update - Gucci quoted me $150 to completely replace the handles. I told them I bought the bag in Paris in July 2015, and they said the repair would be covered under my warranty! So it is of no cost to me. Except the repair can take up to 16 weeks because Gucci first has to specially make the handles in Italy, as they are no longer manufacturing the bag.

Wow! So it's both good news and bad news. Do they keep your bag for the whole time?

Yes. I already miss it, but I am glad I waited for a period of time where I wasn't using the bag every day, as I was over the course of June and July. It stinks that the repair will take so long, but I am willing to wait for it to be done right (and for free)!

I did also ask if they could give the bag a cleaning, but that was over $200 and not covered by warranty, so I said never mind.

Handles look as good as, if not better, than new! The guy in charge of repairs at my boutique said the quality of this sort of repair is often better than the original. They also cleaned up the inside of the bag even though I did not pay the extra $250 to have it done, as I wanted to keep the entire repair free. My handles were still under the 2 year warranty, so what probably would have cost hundreds to repair cost me absolutely nothing! Because of this, I was more patient than I otherwise would have been for the 6 month long wait to get my bag back.
