I only have one designer handbag at the moment - LV speedy 30.
I am looking to buy another one but for me, it is a huge investment and I would like something that is simple and understated and perhaps classic, that is not going to date as I can't afford luxury bags very often. Having said that by luxury, I still mean something on a cheaper end. If money was no issue I would be going for the classic Chanel. I am not entirely sure if I want nice medium size bag such as Givenchy (Antigona?) or Prada (something like Galleria) or if I should go for a crossbody type YSL or Gucci (I think there is Soho and something else) or something Mulberry. I had Bayswater which I found very heavy and even though I loved the look of it, I sold it in the end. Please advice if you have any of these and like using them, find them useful for every day as well as for dressier occasions. I am not looking for a very small evening bag as I don't use them that often at all.

Many thanks!

Have you looked into Celine? The older designs by Phoebe Philo are very understated in my opinion, they don't scream designer but all have a chic and classic style. Some can even be found on the pre-loved market for really great prices.

Do you carry a lot of things on the daily? If you like to be prepared for every situation and always carry a big bag, then don't even bother going for a crossbody. But if you only carry your essentials or you don't mind downsizing from time to time, then a crossbody bag would add a bit of versatility since the Speedy 30 is a medium sized handbag that fits a lot.

Thanks so much. Yes, really like some of them although still a bit expensive. Trio is reasonably priced and really nice too. Do you have a particular model that you would recommend? I am a bit worried abotut buying second hand though!

I really love my Nano Belt bag and I think you can never go wrong with their Luggage bags either, no matter the size.

As long as you buy from a trustworthy company I don't think there is anything to worry about. Vestiaire Collective, Fashionphile etc. have great return policies, if the item isn't in the condition that it was stated in, they will take it back. I bought with VC quite often now and I never had a problem with authenticity. They all pre-authenticate the items for you but I usually get the items double authenticated and never had a problem.

Especially the Luggage style can be found at great prices second hand.

Saint Laurent sac de jour baby or small depending on how much you carry or LV Cluny bb.
Others to consider are Celine nano luggage as mentioned, other LV epi bags such as Kleber pm or Alma bb, Mulberry mini zipped Bayswater. I'm not quite sure if the Celine will be a classic, but the others all have a timeless style and shape.

I have all the evergreen classics that you mentioned, Prada Galleria tote, Givenchy Antigona, YSL WOC, Chanel classic flap including the LV speedy 30.

I think it really boils down to what do you intend to use it for, like will you be using them to/for work or carry a lot of stuffs? For work, I use the Prada Galleria and the Givenchy Antigona (the latter is somewhat like the speedy but very structured). But I don't like using them as an every bag outside of work.

For my everyday use to dressier occasion, its either my Chanel flap or the YSL WOC. But these days its mostly the YSL WOC as its very light and compact, and if I have a evening event to attend to, I'll remove the chain and use it as a clutch.

I watched many youtube videos about the Antigona and everyone said it was heavy, so I never bought it. Then I went into a store and saw it and omg, it was love!!! The bag was not that heavy at all and was beautifully made. You could just see how classy it was and that it would look great for years. It is a bit big/boxy though and structured, not floppy like a Speedy. As someone else mentioned, are you using this bag for work or just days off? For work I would pick the Antigona which would be similar size to the Speedy 30 you have, but for your days off or something different I would pick a crossbody bag in a medium size (the YSL camera bag which is a very good deal at 1K).

Thanks everyone so much! I will have a look at some suggestions. I have other bags that are a bit cheaper and in different sizes but for a bit more expensive bag I wanted to invest in something that will not date. Perhaps, I need a small-medium size bag the most! Currently looking at small zipped Bayswater as Clay colour is in sales here in UK.

You already own a very classic bag, but you might want to check out a leather coach bag, they seem to look classic too and nowhere as costly as a Chanel flap, which is the most classic imo. I do not own any Coach but if price were a concern , I’d buy one.

I love YSL WOC but am worried that it is a bit small. I can't afford Chanel flap. What would you recommend for small-ish to medium size bag for every day that would not date, since you have so many bags that I absolutelly love! Have you had yours for a while, do you like them all as much as you didi when you first purchased them or you find some of them 'dating' already? Is there anything else in your collection that you love and would be suitabel for what I want? THanks!

I've had them for quite awhile now except for the Prada Galleria which I just got it a month ago pre-loved (first time buying pre-loved because I wanted it in Baltico). Luckily I am attracted to and tend to only go for classic designs and colors, so I don't find any of my collections "dated" nor are they considered to be dated designs (if that makes sense?). And I still love them every much with the exception for: -

-LV Neverfull MM in DE: My first luxury bag but it was an impulse buy. Though I do come to gradually like it as it was roomy and a good shape to use for work (carrying documents).
-Prada Tessuto Nylon Gaufre Tote in black: Impulse buy. Heavy and saggy.
-Givenchy Antigona small in smooth grey: Impulse buy. This is too similar to the LV Speedy 30 and like I mentioned earlier, it is very structured. Because of that I find it bulky, especially when I go for afterwork drinks.

Perhaps you might want to consider the Proenza Schouler PS1 in medium (this bag is on my wishlist)? I find it to be a classic and with a relaxed look to it (not the PS1+ though) and comes with a long strap so its good for traveling.

As for the small zipped Bayswater...I don't like the look of this bag  I still prefer the classic Bayswater but its heavy. What about this zipped version, is it heavy like the classic?
Also, just because it is on sale, doesn't mean that you should get it unless you really like it

The Celine Nano Belt bag is elegant but not fussy or overly formal, so I second that suggestion. A woman on our team has one and I always admire the way it looks. Black is classic, of course, but IMO the deep navy blue also looks great and brings a subtle amount of color. If I could suggest something outside the box, perhaps an LV Alma PM in Amarante Vernis? I still see them carried regularly at fine restaurants and brand-conscious events. It's also available in epi if you don't like the vernis look; I would pick indigo over black, but I like the hint of understated color instead of always defaulting to black. If you have the budget for two bags, then the Belt Bag, Antigona or Alma would work well with a black Gucci Soho bag alternative for when you want something smaller that could be worn crossbody. IMO, that combo could serve you for years and for almost any occasion.
