Oh dear, I think you are right - probably not a good idea to do this  My Tiffany DBTY necklace in YG (single stone) did flip and the Tiffany DBTY bracelet that I have now, also with a single stone, also flips. I had wondered whether having bigger stones might have the opposite effect but it sounds as if they might create other issues. Perhaps I am better off getting jackets made for the studs instead.

I still have a DBTY bracelet and it does flip. I don't mind that so much with a bracelet though but it would (and did when I had one) annoy me with a necklace!

Oh what a shame! Your bracelet sounds absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for the links! I really like the last one in particular, very pretty :smile1: That's also useful to know about your .25 DBTY pendant, I guess I could always use just one of the diamonds and then find a use for the other at a later stage.

My favourite was the last one too and even though I've never really been a fan of bevel settings when you compare them against clawed settings it does make the diamond look bigger (as compared on a bracelet in one of the other threads.) :D

What about something like these:

Like a cross between the Aria and a DBTY and they probably won't flip either!

btw, I have a similar size (.25) single DBTY style pendant and mine only flipped after I've been working out or sleeping or something-- it's also on an 18" chain though.
I like the first one.
I don't think this would flip. Since this would be a stationary piece I would have an extender made...2-3", and get it made at 16"length.

Thanks this is really helpful although doesn't the diamond look the same on both sides?

Diamonds are cut in order to have as much light as possible reflect from the facets on the top of the diamond. While there is a small amount that escapes from the bottom, it cannot begin to compare to the fire thrown from the table area of the diamond.
Therefore it is much more desirable to view the diamond from the top (to see all of the brilliance we all love) as opposed to the bottom.
If you ever have a loose diamond (or other cut gem), compare the view from the top, then flip it over and see how much duller it is from that position. :smile1:
Most diamonds in the dbty are small and the difference (IMHO) is even more pronounced.

I totally agree...I wasn't thinking when I typed my response, it's such a shame that they flip...

My fiancé gave me a beautiful Tiffany-esque dbty pendant for Valentines day. He went to the same jeweler that he purchased my e ring from, we were both so happy with how that came out. My new necklace is on the bigger side for dbty, 0.41 carats. I chose yellow gold setting and had it lengthened to 18 inches. I can honestly say that is does not flip at all. I think the slightly longer length has something to do with that. I would recommend anyone having one made by a jeweler they trust. I was in Tiffanys the other day and an SA complemented me on it-could not tell it wasn't from T's. Plus, With the amount of money he saved, he was able to also get me matching earrings (that I hope are an upcoming Birthday gift) that I'm not supposed to know about!

Hi, Onebagtoomany!

I have a Tiffany dbty-styled 3-stone necklace! Each diamond is around 0.4. The necklace does not rotate at all and the diamonds don't flip. The secret is the positions of the little "ears" on the bezels. All the ears are positioned slightly upward, not only the ears of the center stone, but also those of the both sides, which is my jeweller's idea and different from the original Tiffany's. As a result, all the diamonds always drop. This necklace used to be a 3-stone braclet and all the little ears are positioned in the center. And originally, they were studs!;)

How about something like this View attachment 2289941

 So so gorgeous! I am looking for a simpler style for everyday wear and layering but that is very pretty :smile1:

Update: I haven't got any further with this little project as I recently bought my Cartier Love cuff and another HG piece which emptied my jewellery fund, but am going abroad in September to visit my parents and am planning to get my DBTY made then by our family jeweller. Going to go with 18 inches in length but the possibility of wearing it at 16 and 17 inches too and reset one of my .25 diamonds in a YG setting :D

Hi Einseine! Thanks so much for the photos - wow :faint: That is so beautiful and just what I envisioned when originally considering a three stone DBTY! I thought I had decided on just using one stone but am now back to my original lust for a three stone after looking at your gorgeous necklace  I didn't realise the position of the "ears" could make such a difference, I will have to mention that to my jeweller. Thanks for the tip!
