It's gorgeous, and such a great romantic story! I'd flip it. An East West setting would proportionally work well on your hand. Halos are fine but there is a lot of fuss with them checking prongs etc. I'd do a champagne halo. Potentially, less expensive and a fun casual yrt romantic look. The tawny taupe would look pretty with the soft blue of your stone.

@Onebagtoomany , I agree with @saligator; I would consider east west too!
also look to Verdura Belperron for inspiration
Leen Hyne, or briony Raymond for modern settings

IMO adding diamonds and WG makes it dressier and more classic. How about yellow gold for a casual look

or consider a pendant or as the anchor to a bracelet

Oooh… love both those ideas! I definitely think the proportions of the stone on my hand would work really well in an East West setting. I hadn’t considered using a champagne halo but can imagine the colours working really well together!

I really need to figure out what I want to do with it. I hardly wear it because of my dislike of the current setting and side stones and it’s a pity as the aquamarine itself is so lovely.

Thanks again for the great ideas!

Re metal colour, I would actually prefer yellow gold (I prefer it for most pieces and also my other aquamarine ring is set in white with diamonds, a real statement piece, so it would be good to have a more casual alternative), but DH is quite attached to it being in platinum. I also don’t think he will be thrilled when he finds out I want to change the setting, so I may sell the idea more easily if I keep the current metal type at least. I don’t mind a white metal setting - despite generally preferring yellow gold I do think most blue gemstones tend to look better set in white gold or platinum. This aquamarine is fairly pale, so the white platinum suits it.

I love the design of the current setting and personally would just have it remade in a high quality version! I think the stone is statement size and will be far more dressy with a halo. So putting higher quality diamonds for the sides and even slightly increasing the size would improve the look.

Another favorite look of mine for an aquamarine is a sapphire halo.

More great ideas - thank you! :)

A halo is definitely off the table now as since I started this thread I bought another aquamarine ring with a halo and side stones on EBay, which is something of a showstopper. I don’t want DH’s ring to compete with it, so looking at a more simple design now but just improving the quality of the setting and any additional stones.

What about two pear, trilliant, trapeze or baguette-cut diamonds as side stones? I think those could frame your aquamarine beautifully, and illuminate it from within.

Thanks for the suggestion! :) This is actually what I’m currently leaning towards - having the aqua reset in a sturdier platinum setting with really good quality side stones. I like the idea of baguette/cut diamonds and this kind of design would be in keeping with the original one, so I don’t think DH would mind me tampering with it as much.
