I'm planning on getting myself a higher-end tote bag for my birthday in December. I'm thinking about the Chanel GST, the Dior large shopper tote (aka the Dior soft I think?), and the Celine mini luggage at the moment, so help me pick?

:help:

I think they're all in the same price range, not entirely sure how much the Dior currently costs, but I'm assuming it's similar to the other two.

If any of you have one (or all, lucky ;P) of these, maybe point out pros/cons? Or vote for which you'd pick, or maybe suggest a similarly sized bag that you think trumps them all :)

My main priorities are:

1) Leather, not canvas/fabric/anything else.
2) Size, must be large enough to fit a 13-inch laptop
3) Durable, as I'm planning on using it regularly, so not too delicate (the Dior seems like it might be too delicate, I'm wary of the lambskin and I don't think there's another leather option...:thinkin:)

Are you looking for something sort of "showy" and luxe? Dior and Chanel are both more luxe (and thus harder to take care of). But if you'd consider an understated bag, the Fendi peekaboo and Gucci's new tote are worthwhile options.

I would not get something delicate for a laptop, but that's me. You're putting a lot of weight in it, so whether you set it on a surface (scratching the base) or hang it (straining the straps) there's going to be more wear on the bag than for a special-occasion clutch or even an errands/weekend bag.

Don't know much about celine, sorry.

My choice is mulberry bayswater--I dislike open totes.
I've read, from others here, that bays can fit 13" laptop, cords, etc.
As one of nature's accident-prone people, I can vouch for its durability!

Hope this helps.

I've owned a GST and Mini Luggage before and sold them on as I found them very heavy, the GST in particular. What about a Chanel Cerf tote? It has lots of compartments, so great for organising your things, plus a long strap so you have the option of wearing it on your shoulder.

I have two GST's, love them both. Great bags! They hold a ton and so far have held up well. I don't own the Dior soft but have 2 other Dior bags and the quality is superb. However they are both lambskin. So far no problems though. I don't know about the Celine's.
Have fun deciding!

I guess I mostly want an investment piece, not showy per se, but something higher end in terms of quality. I like the Celine bags because of how understated the logo is, unless someone is into handbags, they wouldn't know that they're designer, but I would know. I know the luggages are more widespread now, but they're not that common where I am.

I see the chanel double flap and the lady dior everywhere, but the only common designer tote I see is the LV neverfull.

Any Celine owners with input?

I already have a mini bayswater crossbody, so I want something different.

The cerf tote is a good suggestion, I don't think I've seen one in the boutique, I should check it out next time I'm in store.

It's super hard to find specific Chanel bags in the boutiques near me unfortunately, everything is always out of stock because they only get one of each item per shipment :( Same with Celine colors, usually only one color is available in a particular style/size. Dior is the only dependable boutique.

MASSACCESI's Selene. Gorgeous. Purely hand-made in a little workshop in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, an atelier his father once owned. Selene is the newest design to his collection and isn't up on the website yet, but you can see it on his Facebook Page. I have a Selene on order in one of his new colors - Africa Bronze. This is a style I've been waiting to have for a very long time!
