I'd say Coach or Dooney if you want good quality. I personally think Dooney has some of the best quality, even more than higher end LV bags. But the 'problem'... if you can call it that is that they are affordable, so everyone can get it. So some how that makes people see it for less than it is...

Thank you everyone. I love all of your suggestions and have looked at all the bags, and I think my first is going to be a Coach. But I have been seriously looking at Rebecca Minkoff, Marc Jacobs, Dooney and Bourke, and Michael Kors. These fit me perfectly, and are affordable for me. I like Louis Vuitton, but the ones I want are too expensive at this point. My cousin is giving me a Louis Vuitton Palermo PM though, so I can't wait for that.

I am going shopping next week, so I am definitely getting my first bag then. I'll post it when I do. :)

Need more info. What shape do you like in a bag? What do you need to carry in it? What colors are your favorite? Do you prefer a structured bag or one with slouch?

As for shape, not too sure of all the shapes, but from my browsing since I asked you guys this question, I like satchels. I'd carry my wallet, a small-sized makeup case, a few small notebooks, and maybe a tablet or book reader. I don't like huge bags, but I don't like small bags either. I like medium sized...enough to carry my stuff and stick a few extra things in if needed. I like the option of having room to add more things if needed. I prefer structured, but I like hobo bags that slouch. I do have a requirement for a bag...it must have a top zip closure.

I've been looking very hard at all the suggestions, and although this may be on the smaller side for me, I'm making it my mission to add a Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C. to my collection. It won't be my first, but I love it. There's also a Rebecca Minkoff bag with a satchel shape. I don't remember the name, but I want one of those too.

I bought a Dooney last week at T.J. Maxx and love the quality. It was an "As Is" bag, and I didn't notice until it got home that it had a split in the bottom. It looks like it was from a box cutter though in a warehouse though, not a quality issue. But I can tell Dooney is going to be one of my brands. I can't wait to get another one. I've been looking at the Dooney forum on here to see what kind I want. Also, Dooney will be on QVC in a few days, so I'm definitely going to be watching.

So glad you got a D&B. There are so many styles now. Lots of people love the Alto line. I love the Florentine satchels and collect them. Dillen is also great. I have seen many brands and this is the one I have chosen. The leather is so well done.

You can't really go wrong with a MAC. I've owned MANY of them. I collected them for a while because they come in so many different variations. I recommend buying an old school one pre-loved on eBay though because the older ones have much better quality leather and HW. MACs are great because you can carry them crossbody, double the strap and use them at the shoulder or remove the chain altogether and carry them as a clutch.

The RM satchel I think you're referring to is the MAB or Morning After Bag. It's huge, though. A more workable size is the MAM or Morning After Mini (which isn't really mini at all. It's quite roomy). Again, I suggest you look for pre-loved, though.

Oh, FYI, if the standard MAC is too small for you the MAC was made in a slightly larger size called the "MAC Daddy" (:D) for a while to accomodate tablets.

My first designer bag was a black Coach leather purse that I got for high school graduation. I still have it. It is quality, and I condition the leather to keep it in tip top shape (25 years).

Longchamp leather bag, Furla, Coach, Kate Spade, Marc by Marc Jacob, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Agnes B, Rebecca Minkoff, Fossil ANDDDDDD....GAVRIEL MANSUR!!! I really think GM is the best! [emoji16]
Well those are the brands I bought when I first started buying bags.
