HELP!! Earring hole problem :(

I read the information about Neosporin - I had never heard of a problem with it, and have never had a problem. Seems to me that if you don't have a problem, it's totally safe to continue using it.

So it's a day later and my ear holes feel the same way with irritation and burning. Not unbearable, but definitely noticeable. There is no puss, scabbing, or redness on the outside of the hole, but if I press on it, it hurts very badly and I can see inside that the hole is red. Thoughts?

Is this a perfectly normal reaction to not wearing earrings for a year, even though they were pierced for 10 years?

Also, should I wash my earring holes with antibacterial Softsoap and water, or keep it dry not washing it at all?

EDIT: My earring holes have suddenly become itchy. Is that a good sign of healing or a sign of infection?
