Hello all.
I am thinking to purchase a pair of diamond studs (princess cut) for myself. Here are the options. Please let me know which one you would consider (with reasons). Most importantly, are they worth the price?

I really appreciate your help!:smile1:
Thanks.

1) ideal cut, H-G, SI1-VS2, 1.05 carat, $2339
2) very good cut, H, SI1, 1.35 carat, $2543
3) ideal cut, F-E, SI1-VS2, 1.10 carat, $2838

I would chose option #2, for the larger side stone because earrings you don't need to color E or F. Clarity VS1 and SI1 are very close. Very good cut is decent and still reflecting good light. I would go w/ larger stone for more affordable.

I would choose #1.
cut is most important to me so i ruled out #2 right away. now comparing #1 and #3, because they will be on your ears, the color is not going to be that important (as it would be say for a ring or necklace). So that leaves size, and price increase in #3 doesnt justify the size difference, so I chose #1.

I agree- #1 gets my vote!

Thank you all.
I think #1 gets most of the votes.
Do you think 1.05 carat is too small for a pair of earrings?
I have never owned a pair of diamond studs and not sure about the size....

^^That is truly a personal preference. Would you be eligible for a trade-in, should you want to do that in the future, from where you're going to make the purchase? Where I work we offer a one-to-one trade-in on diamond studs, loose diamonds, etc. It's something to find out should you decide you may want to go larger at some point.

Ditto. I would go with #1.

In response to your question, I think 1 ctw is a great size for Diamond studs. (I plan on getting a pair of 1 ctw studs soon). I think it's a great size for day into night. And having a pair with an ideal cut will make more of an impact by giving off a nice sparkle.

Often the average eye can not tell between ideal and very good. Plus these are in your ears..... I don't normally say quantity over quality but I happen to think the second pair are a perfectly fine quality for an earring. That said I guess my question is what kind of size would look best in your ear? If you have larger lobes I think you'll appreciate the greater ct weight so long as that weight is making the stone look larger. Honestly, I wear a sparkly pair of old round studs right now probably a little over 1 ct. They were my mothers and the quality is not great, they sparkle beautifully and are a good color but I can see a few inclusions for sure when I hold them in my hands and look carefully at them (not carbon). But nevertheless they were my moms and she has passed so I like to wear them now. I recently had them re-set in it this great 8 prong setting (they were in yg) that sit in your ear like a martini setting. They have so much sparkle and fit my lobes so well, I get tons of compliments from some of my pickiest friends, no one has any idea that they aren't a great quality.... and when I say not a great quality I will venture to say that the poorest quality you are looking at will blow mine away bar far. If you can look at these before choosing do it, try not to know which is which and see what you like best on.

I also have a pair of studs that my husband got me years ago as like a starter pair, they are also 1ct and probably in a similar quality category as my moms, I have screw backs on them with a different setting and wear them mostly over the summer when in the water a lot and when we travel now.... I have very little $$ invested in two pretty pairs and when I stand next to my girlfriends that have thousands and thousands invested in their studs you'll never tell anything other than we both have some sparkly diamond studs on..... For whatever reason, earrings are just such an abused piece of jewelry for me that I'm unsure a huge investment is necessary, but that's just me... I always thought I would upgrade from the first set my husband got me, but I love them and have so many other things I would rather do with the extra money now. Good luck, sorry for such a long story : )

#1 for cut as well. You're not going to see a huge difference anyway in those sizes. 1ct size studs is very respectable.

I think 15 pts in each ear can be considerable in the 50 pt each ear range given the weight is not hidden in depth of the stone (going from 1.05 to 1.35).... It's all very hard to tell without actually looking at the studs though.
