Help! Birkin dream color, wrong hardware.

I have an appointment to go see the bag on Monday. But I am very much leaning toward declining at this point.

Go see and test out the size. Might not be your dream bag combo but it helps to assess the future possibilities and reaffirm you interest in another leather / HW combo OR maybe this is the bag for you. Either way, choose for YOU. Remember, it is okay to decline an offer and it will not negatively impact a future offer. Enjoy your trip to H! Good luck deciding.

I agree - go check it out, if you like take it if don't leave it and wait for the right one to arrive.

In 2018, I found myself facing the same dilemma. I requested a Kelly 32 in Vert Vertigo with GHW. Got a call 9 months later with two offers: B35 VV GHW and B30 VV verso PHW, took the B30 which was not what I wanted but turned out to be one of the B's I tend to grab more.

This was a few year ago but I had the same problem as you with BE. My stores got a lot in PHW but very few in GHW. Or exotic which is a no go for me. I definitely would wait for the perfect combo!

+1 looking at it personally. I too had this dilemma with my anemone K... I was too particular about the HW, the size, sellier vs retourne. I’m not a collector so I really choose the perfect specs. It took me a long time to get the perfect offer. But now when I see a pic of an anemone K with different specs than mine, (esp HW) I go thinking I can rock that too... that’s why when I got offered a mini Lindy in PHW, although I live for GHW, I took it cos it’s a nice color for that bag and it’s the only HW made for that bag. And it’s my most used H bag!

1) Absolutely go see it. You never know. I once rushed down to my boutique to see a bunch of Kellys convinced of which I would take (Raisin GHW). I left with a totally different bag that made my heart sing and that I still love (Gold PHW). Also IMO Bleu Électrique looks best with PHW.

2) That said.....read up on Tadelakt. It is a bit like Box, it is delicate, it will scratch. To me this is the bigger issue. Tadelakt is totally different to other leathers you were considering. The bag will be BEAUTIFUL (I would have a hard time saying no) but not a workhorse.

3) Agreed, BE is out there. It is always on the SO list and I haven't seen a season without it in my H history. A bag may well show up in GHW and your favorite leather. For me though if I can't get a color I love in the right specs I satisfy myself with another piece (for instance, I couldn't find BE in a Kelly as I wanted, and was a little scared of the "pop" color, so I bought it in an Evie TPM which I wear constantly). So, perhaps, you find a dream Birkin, but not BE....you can always find something in BE.

I don’t know if you have gone and seen the bag yet but here’s my story with the wrong hardware color.
I asked my SA at the beginning of the year for a K32 noir togo PHW. In the summer she messaged me and let me know they had a K32 with everything I wanted except it was GHW. I turned it down. Some of my friends thought I was crazy to turn down such a classic combination. Hardware color is an important factor in a bag and I realized I just wouldn’t like it as much if it wasn’t truly what I wanted. Fast forward a few months later and I got offered THE bag. I couldn’t be happier.
Whatever bag you end up with make sure you’re really happy about it. Good luck!

The happy part?
1. I confirmed that B30 is indeed the perfect size!
2. I find out that I do not care for tadelakt or smooth leather in big bags
3. I did not give in to the subtle peer pressure from DH... he was ready to bag the bag... yay me! (And to think I was bringing him along to be the voice of reason tsk tsk tsk)
So overall it was very educational and liberating.

Glad you got the see and then make an informed decision, AND stand your ground! I know how tempting it must’ve been when your husband is egging you on. Now you will have no regrets and “what ifs” down the road

I wanted BE with preferably GHW and was offered BE with PHW. Once I saw it in person I loved it and am so glad I got it with PHW since I have so many bags with GHW. To me PHW actually suits BE better. I’m a rose gold and yellow gold person most of the time but some colors look better with PHW so I suggest going to look first. It’s a nice cool tone combination. If you still don’t love it then wait for GHW.

Check it out as always. Trust your gut in the moment. I personally can’t do or like tadelakt. I was so sure that I was gonna do bleu electrique brushed gold for SO a while back after having a bleu electrique phw b30 previously but decided to do brushed palladium after seeing swatches and hardware options.
