Heckled by pre-adolescents for carrying my Gucci...

Im guessing you don't have daughters? When a girl gets in a group, they're pretty stupid. You'll see the kindest most polite girl turn into some kind of beast when even one or especially two or more girls accompany. Plus, when my daughter was about five, she found the word "Gucci" hilarious and would repeat it over and over and say "Gucci shoes", "Gucci bag" just to say the word . I don't think iiwoukd have confronted them or the adult, why bother, and it may give them some sort of validation or ego boost and even the adult may have issues and defended them. We live in Dubai so basically only notice if somebody isn't wearing a brand and my girls knew them before eleven .but please don't be too upset, it's just immature .

I'm sorry, Shoegirlmd. They sound like a nasty piece of work.

Do you think it could have been related to this picture that appeared yesterday on TMZ and social media:
http://www.tmz.com/2018/06/26/hot-felon-jeremy-meeks-wears-gucci-arriving-l-a/

I've seen a lot of rap star/rock star types flaunting Gucci logos in social media pics just because it's a rap star thing. Not necessarily wearing Gucci products, just flaunting copious amounts of pirated designer logos on stuff that eventually provoke lawsuits from overpaid trademark attorneys. The celebrity connection may be how the G logo came into the girls' radar.
I hate it when this happens. It cheapens such a nice quality brand.

This is my first post here but I have been a long time lurker. This story was so outrageous I just had to share. My husband and I were walking to dinner tonight (we live a block from our town’s city center), hand in hand and engaged in conversation. I was dressed casually and carrying my small Gucci matelassé camera bag. Out of no where, a pack of pre-adolescent girls (maybe age 10-12) started heckling me about my bag, chanting “Look at your Gucci! Gucci purse! Gucci purse!” First one, then the rest chiming in in a surprisingly aggressive manner. The sole adult with their group was sitting on the steps engaged in something on her phone
My husband and I just ignored them and kept walking but their display continued for the 30-40’ that we had to walk past them.
My first question is this — how many of you would have known to recognize a designer handbag when you were 11? I guess social media is to thank for that.
Second question — how many of you would have had the gall to yell at an adult on the street in a taunting fashion?
Third question — how many of you would have said something to the kids or the adult?

I’m sure I will get a chuckle out of this once I get past the complete lack of manners displayed by those kids. How would y’all feel?

There was a popular song by Kraeyshawn and another by Gucci Mane and yet another by Lil Pump about the brand or referencing bags. Were the girls Punjabi? Because there is also an Indian Punjab artist with a song called Gucci right now. Gucci is having a massive comeback this year because of the hip hop industry making references to it. I used to call Louis Vuitton, “Louis’s Vagina” when I was a kid and hating on girls that had them. Then again I was poor and now I own three and celebrate other people’s purchases here. Kids express emotions in a sophomoric manner and have gang mentalities in groups and will say just about anything when they’re together. My point is don’t worry about it and enjoy your fabulous style. Maybe even shrug your shoulder and pout your lips like Brigette Bardot if it ever happens again. I as an adult would have told the kids under my care to shut the hell up.

I wonder if they were riffing off of the rap song "Gucci Gang", where they repeat Gucci Gang like 800 times. I hope they haven't it heard at their age because it is vile, but i guess anything goes these days. (Jeeze that made me sound old. Pardon me while I hobble off to my corner while clutching my pearls)
I guess I am already in that corner because I don’t know any of these songs or musicians you all are referring to! :P

IA that song is vile but it's so catchy. When I saw this thread, the chorus immediately popped into my head.

What galls me more about these types of situations is the oblivious parents. When I rode public transportation, I had some kid shine a laser pointer directly in my eye while waiting at a stop. My husband noticed it and said something to the mother who was sitting right there. The mother acted like it wasn't a big deal despite his curt explanation that those lasers can cause permanent damage to the eyes. He also explained that I had a medical condition that caused me to be photosensitive. That didn't phase the mother either. She was as dumb about the whole thing as the kid.

Kendall Jenner wears this bag a lot, maybe that's how they know it? What a weird situation to be in. I'd be tempted to just say "thank you, thank you very much!" as if they were complimenting me!

Exactly. Personally I don't respond to people like this, even kids. But a quick thank you and full smile would have caused them to pause. I'm sorry to hear you had to go through this....civility is a lost art these days...but there kids so there's hope:-)

As someone else said, just be thankful they didn't decide to attack you for the bag or follow you and taunt you further. I knew what a Chanel was by maybe 7 or 8? Children see these things on tv, in magazines, and on celebs too often not to know what they are. You aren't around tween kids too often I bet, because this is VERY normal stuff.. they get into bunches - boys and girls - and start yelling stupid stuff at people, and it can be at seniors, homeless, other kids, you name it. You can't know for sure who that adult was, maybe it wasn't even a parent, maybe they were just in the vicinity and not with the group. They didn't actually do anything anyway for you to talk to an adult about, except maybe cause some momentary embarrassment.

They are what is referred to as “basics” by their fellow classmates. Rude, condescending, self-centered, followers with parents who acts like their friends instead of being their parents. Privileged and privy to designers labels because the constant exposure to social media, mainstream music, name dropping and shopping. The more reaction they get out of you, the more excited they get. Best to ignore them and pretend they don’t exist in your world.

I recognized quite a few designer items at that age. Definitely Chanel flap bags (the 2.55 variant included) and Hermès Kelly. LV prints. Probably some Gucci.

But I wouldn’t have commented for sure.
