This is my first post here but I have been a long time lurker. This story was so outrageous I just had to share. My husband and I were walking to dinner tonight (we live a block from our town’s city center), hand in hand and engaged in conversation. I was dressed casually and carrying my small Gucci matelassé camera bag. Out of no where, a pack of pre-adolescent girls (maybe age 10-12) started heckling me about my bag, chanting “Look at your Gucci! Gucci purse! Gucci purse!” First one, then the rest chiming in in a surprisingly aggressive manner. The sole adult with their group was sitting on the steps engaged in something on her phone
My husband and I just ignored them and kept walking but their display continued for the 30-40’ that we had to walk past them.
My first question is this — how many of you would have known to recognize a designer handbag when you were 11? I guess social media is to thank for that.
Second question — how many of you would have had the gall to yell at an adult on the street in a taunting fashion?
Third question — how many of you would have said something to the kids or the adult?

I’m sure I will get a chuckle out of this once I get past the complete lack of manners displayed by those kids. How would y’all feel?

It's some kind of misplaced jealousy for sure! Yeah, 20 year old me wouldn't have recognised a Gucci purse, let alone 11! Well... at least it wasn't a girl gang chasing you down the street for it.

Yes, I’m sure it was spurred by jealousy. And here I was self-conscious about taking my new bag to my office — I should have worried more about wearing it past the playground
Being chased by a gang of 12 yr old girls down the streets of my quiet little town would have been a sight!

I wouldn't have recognized a designer handbag at age 11; at age 12 or 13, yes, but full disclosure, I've been interested in all fashion from a fairly young age. That said, I would NEVER have spoken that way to an adult, much less a stranger. My parents would have had my head, and rightly so! I would have probably said something along these lines, "Hi girls! Thank you for liking my bag. When you get a job, and work hard, maybe you can buy your first Gucci one day." I've said similar things to kids that are overly aggressive or mouthy. I think most kids stop when they can sense you're not giving them the desired reaction (getting upset or angry). But yeah, it's rude, 11 years old or not.

1st=by age 11, I had lived in several countries & thought stretch belts with "I love disco!" were great fashion.
Bags were burdens to haul around, when I started needing tampons.

2nd=my parents taught me better. Spankings were not seen as hideous outrages, then.

3rd=um...children. Adult with them was not paying attention, so wanted a stranger's. I'd have smiled & waved. Then walked on.
Not my circus, not my monkeys.
If is the worst thing screamed at you on a street, luck smiles radiantly.

Oh, if a child is rude or disrespectful, I give the parents ( if they are around) a chance to correct them. If it doesn’t happen, then I do it every time. We always respected adults when I was a kid. My DH and I don’t tolerate rudeness or disrespect from our son for a second. I’ve noticed that a lot of parents think their kids are being witty, when they are actually being horribly rude. The parents laugh when they should be correcting their kids.

It's impossible to know their precise ages based on this 1 minute interaction. "Look at your Gucci! Gucci Purse! Gucci Purse!" is a really...odd way of taunting someone. I'm not sure what they were doing but probably just being silly. I would've done what you did, kept walking. I don't think I would be outraged by this incident, but maybe it was more traumatic in person.

Yeah, silly is my thought. Maybe they were excited to see a Gucci in real life rather than just in magazines.

Yes, probably more appalled than outraged — my mother would have grounded me for weeks for that kind of behavior. But it was a little uncomfortable and weird.

Children seem to have no boundaries, the girl was prob. trying to impress you she kew what your bag was. Her way of attracting attention was rude and kind of nuts. When anyone acts crazily around you, whatever their age, especially whipping up a mob mentality, of course it's intimidating. Don't feel bad for your natural instincts.

I had a 'little madam' near me today at the beach. She was so busy trying to impress me and her young companions with her loud antics she put her foot through (someone else's) boat. I took a picture and she fled.

I'm sorry, Shoegirlmd. They sound like a nasty piece of work.

Do you think it could have been related to this picture that appeared yesterday on TMZ and social media:
http://www.tmz.com/2018/06/26/hot-felon-jeremy-meeks-wears-gucci-arriving-l-a/

I've seen a lot of rap star/rock star types flaunting Gucci logos in social media pics just because it's a rap star thing. Not necessarily wearing Gucci products, just flaunting copious amounts of pirated designer logos on stuff that eventually provoke lawsuits from overpaid trademark attorneys. The celebrity connection may be how the G logo came into the girls' radar.
