Cool! I actually have a Gérard Darel midday hobo that I love. The leather is great. I was considering a Jerôme Dreyfuss Johan. Great ideas. Where is the best place to shop? I've been to the Champs Élysées where I purchased my Lancel.

St Germain des Prés area :
Gérard Darel, 174 bd St Germain
Paris 6ème

Jérôme Dreyfuss, 1 rue Jacob
Paris 6ème.

I don't mean any disrespect to your idea but just want to share my experience. For years I dreamed of going to Paris and to the flea markets-I planned my trip around spending a day there. My DH promised me the bag of my choice for an anniversary gift. We went to the big market and I was never so disappointed in my life. Everything was so expensive and it didn't seem like a flea market at all-but a very expensive antique mall that kept going and going. I saw a handful of vintage bags but they were so rude about letting you look or touch anything-I couldn't imagine how I could even buy one.

I left the market after a full day with a handful of vintage post cards. It was such a waste of the day except for a great lunch where we met some really nice tourists.

It seemed to me if you are looking for a bag, Chanel has a pretty good selection there as compared to the boutiques here, but I l would focus on a local designer that you won't find much of in the US. We were there about two years ago, and I noticed that so many things in Paris in the tourist section now saw made in China, so buyer beware....

I can understand your idea--targeting a specific item, @ marches aux puces, would prove more difficult than visiting a store to buy.
I found Paris flea markets...an experience more than for shopping. There's a form to the interactions, a process. It's difficult & frustrating @ times to learn.
I tend to wander more than shop specifically on vacations. So, I understand Pimpernel's idea, also.
Everyone's different--which is nice.

a few more for you to check out perhaps;

Le Tanneur, really practical and plenty of stores

Morabito, very luxe ol' school

Renouard, grown-up practicality

Perrin, avante-garde bags and accessories that I personally absolutely love

As for fee markets. Pleeease go, just don't go with too many expectations. I found a great 'forgotten' name silk scarf, rolled/hand-sewn etc for 3 Euro, just a lucky find. Just go and browse and have fun.

I've been researching Moynat. They have beautiful bags. I am in love with the way they can personalize their handbags. I'm now considering their Cabas Monogram, Cabas Pauline or Quattro tote. I would like it personalized if I get it. I've sent them an email to get more information. My big concern is if the tote will be wide enough.

+1

Moynat would be the most intresting to see.

Wonderful! Those are all terrific choices :)

You will fall bonkers-head-over-heels in love with the brand when you visit their Paris showroom. Impeccable design, craftsmanship, customer service and attention to detail all around.

And yes - love the tromp l'œil and personalizations they're willing to do - so fun :D

They've been getting a lot of press lately with the Pharrell Williams collab, but here's another nice little blog post about visiting not only the showroom, but atelier and workroom also http://parisapartment.wordpress.com/2014/08/13/traveling-in-style/.

Keep us posted - would love to hear more details about getting something personalized!

(tPF Moynat thread for your posting pleasure also)
