Have you ever cracked or damaged a stone in your rings?

How did you notice the damage? I think I could wear my band and all of the stones are small enough I might not even notice a crack? (I think I'd notice on my e-ring) Or maybe it's really noticeable if it happens?

My mother cracked her diamond. She banged her hand on a table accidentally and hit the diamond at just the right angle.

She was so devastated because she wanted to preserve her engagement ring. She had them take the stone out to recut (and now it's much smaller, a .33 ct) and put back into the band that she MADE herself and designed herself and the jeweler messed up the front of the ring COMPLETELY trying to put the smaller stone in.

That's one reason why I don't want to go to local jewelers for repair work... If you don't know who is very good, then you risk having some hack damage your piece further. Right now my mom keeps her tiny diamond in a platinum channel set setting with matching band. The only time she gets upset about the whole ordeal is when she wants to buy diamond jewelry that is "bigger" than her engagement ring's stone. (She will not upgrade her ring, because my parents do not believe in that.) Ultimately, she never pulls the trigger on diamond studs because she doesn't want bigger stones in her ears than on her hand because she thinks that will look weird. So she has my dad splurge on anything metal (like the verrrrrrry nice platinum Rolex) and continues to be all sad about it.

I was just listening to a show on diamonds on the radio. The guy said they are impossible to scatch since they are hard, but they are a brittle stone so they can chip, especially the pear or marquis shapes.

I have a 5 (round) diamond band and somehow managed to chip one.

Cracked my aquamarin stone. It's a small part on one side. Unfortunately they cannot repair it. And several stones were cracked in my wedding ring (diamonds all around). It's easy to replace.

Once at Tiffany's I was admiring an eternity ring when I noticed that one diamond was cracked. The SA was really embarrassed. You notice it when you see a diamond is dull.

They definitely are not impossible to scratch. Other diamonds can scratch each other.

They do chip / crack, I feel, fairly easily. ALl it takes is a light whack in the right spot!

I wear all my rings (ering, 2 bands--one channel set halfway, one eternity shared prong, right hand 5 stone ring) and have not cracked anything. I never take my rings off.

I do have a friend with an antique ring that got cracked when she banged her hand against something accidentally. She got the diamond re-set as a pendant.

So a cracked stone just looks dull... I wonder how many of mine are cracked and I'm just not observant enough to tell...

You will probably notice as the light in a broken stone breaks totally diffrent than a stone without a crack. You can also ask your jeweler for a check up. Or you could use a loupe/magnifier (sorry... I am not a native speaker in English)

My mother always warns me about wearing my ring all the time because "you could hit it or....." Yes, but who is to say that if I only wore it on special occasions I could also just hit it wrong.
It's recently been re-appraised and insured for full value so I'm going to enjoy it!

Yup, I have had only one scratch another and that was replaced but Ive had a few chips/cracks in my eternity/half eternities. My husband wants to smack his titanium band off my rings HARD to "prove" that they can't break. I am inclined to let him. Just so I can prove him wrong!
