Have you ever cracked or damaged a stone in your rings?

I was at my local jeweler's and he offered to clean my rings. Then the jeweler commented that he doesn't make band styles with stones that go all the way around anymore because stones can get cracked or damaged. I'd never worried about it before (nor had I been particularly careful and I wear mine daily) but now I can't stop worrying. I've noticed lots of you have this style of ring - have any of you cracked or damaged any of the stones in your band from normal wear?

I was in at Tiffany's getting my diamond wedding band cleaned, and she mentioned that there was a lady in with the exact band and some how all the diamonds were cracked. They couldn't figure out what caused it.... and neither could she. But the SA said she's NEVER seen this.....

Wow... so no one has ever personally had it happen to them, but everyone says it has happened to someone else. Do you think you would notice if one of your diamonds was cracked? Does it just fall out? Sorry if that's an idiotic question...

I have. I have a 4ct twt shared-prong eternity and had to have a diamond replaced because I chipped it somehow. Actually I have also chipped a diamond pulling an item out of the grocery cart. That was very annoying. If you wear the ring while doing simple household chores, it's not that difficult to 'hurt' the stone. Washers/Dryers, Dishwashers, etc. They all can be hazaradous - so I guess the point of this story is stop doing all domestic tasks :)

She must have been wearing that thing to do EVERYTHING. Holy schnikies.

Bagaday for the win!:yahoo:

Originally yes I did stop wearing it but after this last time where I waited FOREVER for them to get my stones in to replace them and get the ring back to me, I just have been wearing it all the time.

It will defintely be based on who you got it from. Mine came from Facets Collection and despite the time frame being a bit too long for my liking, it came in around $45 a stone for a 5pt stone. That included labor.

My Mom cracked her diamond (engagement solitaire) almost totally through the center on a grocery cart when I was a kid. She was pretty devastated. She still wears the diamond to this day, though she had extra prongs put on it to help keep it together.

Luckily my Dad has bought her an upgrade since then, but she only wears that on special occasions! :D

I wear my solitaire every day, though I always take it off while doing household tasks, I never cracked any stone on any of my rings up till now, and I have worn them all the time
