I hand-wash most of my silk. If they go for a spin in my washer they go in a mesh bag, inside out, all buttons buttoned/fasteners fastened and air dried on my rack. I just hand washed a Pucci dress that I know by the end of the night probably had about half of an espresso martini in it and it came out beautifully.
I still trust my dry cleaner but I like being able to handle most things on my own. I removed extensive blood from a lamb leather moto that they declined to clean since they send garments to a leather cleaner and couldn't guarantee the leather texture would remain soft (they assured me it was not the source of the stain) and I hand-washed my own Alexander McQueen silk chiffon skull scarf with the same stains.
Silk dyes well too. I ended up dyeing a Paul & Joe dress that my sweat bleached some absolutely fabulous pit marks into
and it came out beautifully.
Never had issues with shrinkage, even with the Paul & Joe I dyed since I kept the pot hot for the duration of the process.
