Hello Ladies!

I've had my optic white Hamilton Traveler since last December, and lately I've been noticing that it has started to slouch rather intensely on its sides. When I wasn't using it, I left it stuffed in the dust bag. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same slouching or if it is common in the type of bag. Thanks in advance!

The Hamilton Travelers are made of vitello leather, which is more structured than other smooth leathers however it still gives and results in some slouching. I owned two of these in the Large size but both had much less slouching. I was able to minimize it by stuffing the bag, particularly in the corners/sides to reduce any signs of wear.

On a side note, does anyone know of a good Canadian site to resell? I want to get rid of my Black Traveler as well as a couple other things.

Looks great in the pics? I don't see it?

Thank you! When I carry my bag, I usually don't carry a lot of things, so I'm guessing that might be why the slouch has become more prominent in my bag.

All leather bags will have a bit of slouch. I think it gives it character, personally. If it bothers you, you can actually soak the bag in water, stuff it with a towel and dry it quickly. I use a space heater. They come out perky and new again! I know many will freak out on this, but trust me, I do it all the time. As I state repeatedly my husband and I are bikers that live in leather and we have been working with it for decades! My husband still has his leather jacket he bought in Sturgis South Dakota, from 2002! He actually washed it in the bathtub. You should have seen the filth that came off of it! He then died it and sealed it, with none of the dye ever coming off. Looked like brand new when he was done! We also do leather saddle bags, seats, tool pouches, and began doing handbags as well. Wetting them and shaping them and then drying quickly ( is the key) makes them look new again! I do it all the time, at least once a year. You would not believe the dirt that comes off in just one year! But you have to stuff it tight for the first two hours of drying, then take the towel out and finish drying. You will be amazed!

Frankly, I think your bag is still gorgeous and this minor 'slouch' takes NOTHING away from it, at all! You might e better off with the saffiano bags, if this bothers you.

Thank you for such an excellent advice, Cinthia! I had no idea that could be done and not ruin the leather. It's impressive what you and your DH are making. Is there a thread somewhere around here where you could post some pics for leather-lovers like me, myself and I? :smile1:

Edit to add: I love so much the smell of leather that I cannot get a new car without leather seats anymore. That smell of new leather is so addicting! Same with bags, shoes, etc. I also like suede in shoes for some odd reason, but how the new leather smell is second to none on my scents list.

Thank you so much! Most of my other bags are Saffiano instead. I figured because it was soft leather that the slouch was probably normal, but I just wanted to get an expert opinion to make sure. Again, thank you!

I really never took any pics of what we do to our leather, or I would post some.We don't MAKE leather wear,, we maintain what we have. Although we do have friends that make leather goods and have taught us a lot about how to work with it. Here is a pic of me in all my leathers on our Harley. This is the bast I can show you. Notice the leather jacket which I wash at least once a year. My knee high chaps and boots, and leather Michael Kors Astor Satchel, which I have also washed a couple of times.

Good grief, we get bugs hitting us and splattering on our leathers and sometimes on our face! lol! And that includes, rain, wind and rocks! It is just a way of life for us 'bikers'. We have so much leather we have to maintain. Leather jackets. chaps, boots, gloves, hats, saddle bags, tool pouches, our seats, etc. . If we didn't maintain it, we would spend a fortune buying it all new every couple of years.

Good leather will last forever and even outlive you, if just take care of it. Michael Kors leather is high quality leather that I really enjoy and it lasts for years! I have had some of my MK leather bags for decades!. I wish they branched off into riding jackets and such. I often wish Coach had done that too as their glove tanned leather is incredible and some of the best I have ever seen. My husband even likes it. I may be getting some MK leather gloves very soon for this fall and winter. I have yet to try them but I've seen some that are awesome!

Thanks! Love your style! And Astor is just how I like bags. But of course I also like to diversify, so that's why I love so many others. I like how you say you're doing all your leather pieces, I can feel the love you're giving them.

I will be watching the pic tomorrow, now it'd be a good idea to go to sleep. First graders are waiting for me tomorrow and I feel kinda out of (any) shape.

Ok, now I see what you were saying about the bike. But I liked the previous pic too, you know. :)

Ok, now you're rubbing it in my face, so to speak. :p I absolutely love leather, I always have. The smell, the touch, the colors on it, etc. But I also like the feel of suede, and I think that's more because of my touchy-feely way of being. I have to admit though that suede is not holding as well as leather, the shape, the color, everything. I never tried washing it though. I guess it doesn't work as well as for leather, does it?

Impressive, your husband's work!

Yes it does! You can wash suede as well. I have lots of suede, and I love it, but it's no good on the bike. The leather is more wind resistant and water resistand, so that's why we wear so much of it . You asked me asked me for a pic of some we have done, so I just responded with that one. Not trying to rub it in! lol! It's just a MUST on the motorcycle. Protects our own hides too if we ever go down, God forbid!
