Gucci vs Louis Vuitton

Well, I've been buying both for over 30 years, and in my experience, with LV the lining gets gummy after a decade or so. I experienced this with a tote bag and with my luggage. Also, I've experienced leather dry rotting on the leather, and if it's a high stress area, like by the handles or where the strap holder allows for attaching a strap, if you have the item weighted down, it will give out because of the leather dry rotting. This is from years heavy use and different weather conditions while using and while in storage. LV wasn't able to fix, but did offer me a generous store credit that I used to purchase gifts for friends and family. With Gucci, I have not experienced any of this, even though I do not own Gucci luggage, I've purchased lots of other items from Gucci and they are timeless and holds up very well. I will not abandon LV, I want the Louis Vuitton Horizon Rolling Luggage with painted stripes and initials painted on in probably a bright yellow, as if the LV design isn't already bold enough. (although both brands may seem ubiquitous, mine will stand out in a crowd of LV's, real ones and/or fake ones) I just won't go too hard accumulating another entire set of LV luggage and spending a King's Ransom on 5 or more pieces of LV luggage that might or might not disappoint in the years to come. (oh, and when the strap popped and then the handle came off. it was while I was at the airport thinking I looked super cool, until my luggage started falling apart in front of everyone) I'll stick with buying just one LV roller and keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't mean that Gucci SLG's aren't great quality, they are, and they will last for many years. There are just small and sometimes luxurious details that I appreciate in LV that Gucci sometimes lacks, or even cases where Gucci doesn't actually make a similar caliber item crafted like one from LV. For example Gucci wallets have all textile in some parts of the wallet where LV is leather lined, and little design touches like the card slots being cut from a single piece of leather (vs Gucci with layered slots.) It's just being nitpicky at that point though, not something that you'd even notice in day to day use. I am sure other people prefer more textile because it is lighter and low maintenance, so it is just a matter of preference...

I couldn’t agree more. It’s the little things that sometimes add up to something more “Special”. I hope this doesn’t get me crucified, but outside of being made in Italy, I really don’t see that much of a discernible difference between Gucci and MK/Coach. Gucci/Prada/Ferragamo is a step above those premium brands, and LV and it’s French counterparts are a step above Gucci. I also feel like it’s always been this way and probably always will be....Disagree if you want to, it’s just my opinion.

I used to be always and only buying Louis Vuitton, but I have bought 2 Gucci bags from Gucci store since 2 years ago (one each year) even I know they probably would not hold value as much as my LV bags do, but, I like them and I feel Gucci bag are prettier and all seasonal looking vs. LV bags either Azur (warm weather), DE (cold weather) or Mono (still too dark for warm weather and the prints can look busy).

and Of course I still like LV bags, especially the ones don't be seen on street often such as limited edition or older, well made and discontinued style.

I think it’s a bit unfair to lump Coach in with Michael Kors... Coach has been around a lot longer and their vintage leather is hardwearing. They even used solid brass hardware and most bag designers don’t do that at all. Granted, a lot of their newer stuff isn’t built like it used to be, but Coach still makes great bags with quality materials.

I wasn’t lumping anything, it was comparing Gucci to brands in that price point. I can add Kate Spade, Tori Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, etc. Coach is as basic as they come, who even cares?

I honestly have bad experience with both brands. Gucci might be a bit worse than LV. Love Gucci designs and their RTW but I’ve had gloves with popped stitch after two wears and the screws of my mini ophidia strap came out due to “excessive” leg shaking... I blame my anxiety :giggle: LV is good quality except I have issue with their alignment. My mon monogram pieces had the stripe printed so unevenly I’m like

Both make good quality and also the questionable quality items.
The only issue with Gucci that it’s becoming so prevalent and common that every single person is either carrying the marmont or the soho (at least in my city) that it feels like Michael Kors
I feel that way about LV. The world is over saturated with Neverfulls and Speedys. Between the fakes, the look-a-likes that are actually different initials when up close and the authentic ones, I am so bored by that monogram print. LVs don’t seem special to me anymore.
