I’m a long time purchaser of both and love both brands. Quality is great for both.
Both brands make good quality products. Both brands experience quality issues once in a while.
If i would need to choose i would say LV
I have both and find quality good for both. Couldn’t pick one over the other.

I have more Lv than Gucci only because I don’t like it when Gucci goes on sale and has an outlet. The idea of buying something at full price then goes on sale bothers me so the 3 purses that I have were on sale from the main store to outlet. I just recently bought my first Gucci at full retail only because I believe the Marmont may not go on sale later... but who knows?
Most Gucci bags don’t go on sale but yes some make it to outlets and some you can snag on sale from department stores. Gucci used to have twice yearly sales but no longer.
It depends on the item. I would say without question that LV's SLGs are much nicer quality than Gucci. For bags it varies based on the style. But both are generally well made and good value for the price. LV and Gucci are my two main go-tos for a reason.
Pretty sure I've seen some of the Marmont styles at tjmaxx before, so yeah, they do go on sale, maybe not in the color or size you want though. To me, having a sale or outlet does not impact the quality of the product.

I don’t necessarily agree. I have both lv and Gucci slgs. Some I’ve had for many years. Both great quality. I adore them both.
I don't mean that Gucci SLG's aren't great quality, they are, and they will last for many years. There are just small and sometimes luxurious details that I appreciate in LV that Gucci sometimes lacks, or even cases where Gucci doesn't actually make a similar caliber item crafted like one from LV. For example Gucci wallets have all textile in some parts of the wallet where LV is leather lined, and little design touches like the card slots being cut from a single piece of leather (vs Gucci with layered slots.) It's just being nitpicky at that point though, not something that you'd even notice in day to day use. I am sure other people prefer more textile because it is lighter and low maintenance, so it is just a matter of preference...
I own both Gucci and LV, although I have more LV. In terms of quality, I think they’re both great but LV may win in their post sale customer service. A few years ago, LV had a problem with the glazing on their empreinte leather. They reached out to me and offered repair/return of the affected items even though it was a few years after the purchase.
Buy whatever catches your eyes and makes your heart sing. Don't over-analyze. It's shopping.

The only issue with Gucci that it’s becoming so prevalent and common that every single person is either carrying the marmont or the soho (at least in my city) that it feels like Michael Kors
