Hey PF,

I know this question has been asked before, however not recently.

I’ve been looking at purchasing a camera bag and like both the Gucci’s Soho and the YSL Lou Lou matelasse/quilted with gold hardware.
I want to see how the YSL holds up quality wise as I have read that their quality has tanked recently.

How do both of these bags wear? Do they scuff/mark easily? Hold their shape? How are the straps. I have looked at these both in person and want to hear from those who have worn them for a while. These are both new brand for me as I am usually a LV and MCM (non logo items!) girl.

Or is there another bag I should be looking at? I hate chain straps which is why I have passed on the Gucci Marmont.

Thanks in advance!

I've had my red Gucci Soho Disco bag for almost 2 years now, and it's held up pretty well. I use it fairly frequently and always take it with me on trips/outings because it fits a lot.

Here is a photo of me wearing it from a couple of months ago. As you can see, it still looks great. I do stuff it when I'm not using it. Still, because the bag is pretty soft, the part where it hits my body (yellow arrow) sinks in a little bit (conforms to my body). Not a big issue. The piping at front two corners (blue arrows) are starting to show some wear, but hasn't ripped or anything. The bag doesn't scuff or mark easily, and I don't see wear and tear anywhere else. The hardware is still nice, the tassels haven't split, etc.

Hope that's helpful to you. I don't have the Lou Lou so I can't share my thoughts on that one.

I think you'll get more responses about the soho disco because a lot more people have it.

I'm a bigger fan of the YSL Lou Camera bag in gold hardware, been looking to get that one myself (black + gold combination or brown + gold really speaks to me). I feel that the soho disco is more casual all-round, while the Lou is easier to dress up AND dress down, better for more occasions. I've watched several reviews on both bags. The soho is in quite a soft leather so it doesn't retain it's original shape but becomes a little warped at the edges; many camera bags do this! The Lou is also soft but a little bit more sturdy. I think both the leathers are hardwearing and don't scuff easily. My experience with YSL customer service has been great, they've always been friendly and helpful, and I've heard great things about repairs with them as well, they're very responsible. Never heard of anyone ever having a quality issue with the Lou camera though.

If you're normally an LV girl, I would also suggest the Saintonge. I loved my Saintonge with canvas + noir leather, so light and easy to use as well. They've also come out with empreinte variations now!

Since both of the bags are very similar in shape and size, and both have great ratings, I would go for the one with the more appealing look for you. For me, the Lou just looks more "expensive" and better for different occasions.

Lastly: This topic I also answered in may help you as well:

This review really helped me, hope it helps you since it's exactly what you're asking!
