Gucci Dionysus vs Chanel Classic flap bag - Need opinions :(

I would 92834756293485623495872345879876345234986% get the Chanel. The Gucci, although very pretty and on trend and current, is not going to be on trend and current within the next five or ten years heck, maybe even by the next season it won't be relevant and look dated. Plus at the rate Gucci goes in having huge collections and many variations of the same bag, if you do decide to sell the bag, the resell value of it is not going to be that high, even if it is in pristine condition. The Chanel on the other hand has been around for yonks and it is still stylish and relevant is saying something. Also the price of one of those things keeps on getting higher (I heard there is a price increase coming soon - in Australia that is) and pretty much the Chanel bag is everything that the Gucci is not IMHO. Honestly, I feel like you would enjoy wearing the gucci more than the Chanel judging by what I read. It doesnt matter if it will be outdated in a few years time as long as you consider it beautiful to have in your collection and still proudly wear it. Dont feel obligated to buy something if your not too fond of it for now..there's always a next time anyway! x

Are you looking for a classic you can wear everyday (Chanel flap) or a statement bag to boost your outfits (Gucci Dionyses)? It's also good to look at your own collection and see how many classic versus statement bags you own. I like to follow Michael Kors' 80% classic pieces and 20% statement pieces rule. Good luck!

Ooh, I haven't heard of this Kors rule before. I am taking to the idea.

Given how often I don't go out to fancy nights, maybe 90% classic and 10% statement purses...90/10% for jewelry...and maybe I'll apply it to my shoes at 80/20%.

Mostly because my shoes tend to be more affordable...if I get bored of the 20% "statement" type shoe, I don't mind switching out a dated/bored pair every 2 years or so.

Sorry Gucci soho disco has been around forever and still the perfect little bag! Most of the Gucci bags are reproduction of classic bags from years ago. I think one should have both. I have Chanel classic jumbo and a few seasonal bags but I just bought Gucci Numphea bag and it is gorgeous classic bag that will not be outdated. I think the floral prints and studs and all the other jazz on the bags is too much and perhaps those will be outdated.

I feel your dilemma!! Just bought a Gucci Dionysus brand new and it’s still on its way.
And also asking a seller to look for a pre-owned pristine condition Chanel classic in black caviar GHW. I promised myself no more buying after these 2 [emoji1] ... well, hopefully, as I’m flying to Singapore next month [emoji51] so God help me

That is such a tough decision!

I am kind of enamoured with the Dionysus these days, so I find myself leaning towards that.. But I do think the Chanel will remain more timeless. I am in a similar dilemna myself as well haha, sorry I have no real advice for you here. Except maybe think of what goes best with your outfits.. What bag goes better with your image.. etc.

The Gucci is obviously beautiful, but I think 4500 pounds is way too much to spend on something trendy and not classic/timeless.
