My vintage version finally arrived today! It is so beautiful - there is just no mistaking the gorgeous quality.
I do have a question, though - when not using, what can I use to help keep the bamboo handle in place?

Congratulations
The 1966 version and subsequent versions of the same shape thereafter (like your 1990s version) don't need anything. The drilled hardware brackets hold them like a vice. Any spaying at all would have been done over the last 30 years. The bamboo is def dry enough now.
The only bamboo handles that could be helped with a strong plastic brace (or braces) are the Diana (double handle) and the New Bamboo Top-handle 2010-2015.
