Just ask LOTS OF questions and bring a loupe when you buy diamonds and don't buy if you don't get a full refund of your money with that guarantee of a refund in writing... (NOT store credit)

ugh I hate stores that don't give a refund! I bought a WG amethyst ring from a local store probably about 7 years ago and it turned out to be 10k not 18k and a mystic topaz!!! I took it back and they told me they do not offer refunds. I spoke with the owner and showed him my receipt stating 18k WG and an amethyst for the center stone....they grudgingly gave me a refund after about an hour of arguing. I learned my lesson after this experience!

They can have reports, yes, but they're noted as being CE. And GIA does not "Certify" them. EGL will. Not all of these dealers sell stones from the more reputable labs though.

Neither of the first two were clear at ALL that they were CE stones. The second guy outright lied.

ETA: GIA will "certify" lasered, which means they treated black inclusions with a laser. They will not certify a filled diamond.

Oh ok, I only saw part of it.

I loved the reveals, they showed them videos of their initial encounters, and the second guy was really displeased he was caught. It's a shame these con artists behave this way, and moreso that people buy from them.

It's a good idea to get educated even just a little bit, and learn how to use a loupe, before you go into a jeweler. Any jeweler.

Thank you for posting. Interesting and quite frightening. I know the buyer should always beware but those salespeople were completely deceptive in my opinion. I would be suspicious immediately upon hearing that I was paying 3k for something valued at nearly 9k. I would have said - what's wrong with it and that sounds too good to be true.
