So my parents want to purchase a watch for me for my graduation. My dad has asked me to look at Rolex and give him an idea as to what I like.

I do love Rolex watches but I am very uneducated in the luxury watch department. All I currently own is MK and Michele.

So I'm wondering for all you watch lovers what else should I look into? I will keep this watch forever so I want to make the right choice. I have seen some lovely Cartier watches also. Keep in mind nothing too outrageous. I really like the Rolex Datejust and the Cartier Ballon Bleu watches.

I prefer the Cartier watches over Rolex. I don't own either but if I had the $, I would definitely get a Cartier one. I think they're lovely. The Rolex ones strike me as a little more masculine.

Although Rolex is amazing, I think I would also look into Cartier. As you already noticed, the Ballon Bleu is a very beautiful and classy watch if you like round faced watches. Other than that I like the Cartier Tank Anglaise or Francaise and maybe the Patek Philippe Twenty-4 for rectangular faced watches.
I don´t know the budget, but if you can go for a Rolex, than the Twenty-4 should´t be out of the price range.
Oh I wish I were you...so exciting!

I would go for the Rolex. I just got my first and I'm thrilled all over everytime I look down and see it on my wrist. It is the only watch I've ever owned that I feel will be with me for life! Mine is dainty enough to be worn everyday, but has enough sparkle to wear on a dressy evening out. I just adore it! GL!

My thoughts are the ballon bleu might not be as classic and a rolex?

I'm struggling with what face size to get. I don't want to go too small I do like larger watch faces but my parents think it is too trendy. Thoughts? I plan on keeping this and wearing it forever.

I would tend to agree that they may go out of style in later years, but what doesn't?
Designers have to change up the styles to keep making sales.
Maybe buy one of the larger faces, but on the smaller side, not the largest.
But that said, I would buy the one I love now, and not worry about it lasting a lifetime. That can be a looong time, and the more you love it now, the longer you will want to wear it.

I don't think the larger size thing i a fad, it will stay for good imho. My recommendation would either be a 34 mm Airking or a 36 mm Datejust. Both are classics and good sizes. If you are into the more sporty and men size watches a Submariner is an eternal classic that will never go out of style.

The best I can recommend you is go to the stores and try them out to see which works and which doesn't. This will give you a more definite answer versus asking which brand we like better. Quite frankly, there will always be two sides so your best bet is actually go to the two stores and look at the watches. Who knows you might choose something that's opposite of what we suggest! Good luck!
