Hello!

I bought a preloved key case (pics below) that has some wear on the glazing on the folds. I emailed Goyard to ask for a repair, and they told me:

"
Thank you for your photos. Unfortunately, we are not affiliated with any consignment shops and only offer after sales services for products purchased at our Official Goyard Boutiques.

"
Is this normal? I'm a little flabbergasted, because even Hermes offers repair for preloved items.

Note: I'm not asking for authentication, because I know that's not available on this forum. I am looking into a paid service. Just trying to start a conversation about your experience with Goyard.

I think authenticate4u does goyard possibly authentication wise? I’m not sure how it is with repairs. After my st louis tote wore horribly I haven’t bought from Goyard again.

Oh boooo! So odd. . . I guess they have their reasons, but still.

I think their reasons, honestly, are anticompetitive and/or brand preservation. They now have to compete with the (much lower priced) resale market, and they don't like that. So, they're trying to differentiate between the in-boutique purchases and identical used purchases by creating some kind of artificial barrier to repair.

Or, they don't want to cheapen the brand by having a bunch of torn up pre-loved items on the resale market (since we all know how they wear!), so they try to discourage people from buying pre-loved.

I'm not necessarily surprised, given that Goyard in the US seems to have a less than stellar reputation on customer service and quality (which is the reason I never purchased directly from them).

I'm just wondering if I was singled out for some reason or if there are others who have had other experiences. If so, maybe I can go to my local boutique (Chicago) and talk to them to see.

Can you possibly go to a different Goyard store? Or maybe Try a retailer that sells.. i think Bergdorf does depending where you live.

I could, but I'm trying to understand if this is standard policy for Goyard. The closest boutique is about an hours drive away, so I don't want to go there if they're just going to tell me the same thing.

I'm not hellbent on repairing this item anyway, and I've already asked for a quote from Leather Surgeons. I would've had to pay for repair anyway, so it's not like I'm losing money by Goyard refusing. Plus, I'm much more comfortable with working with non-stuck-up, US based repair services, if I do say so myself! Either way, I'm not necessarily really pressed to get them to let me repair. I'm just trying to understand if this is normal and spread information if so.

I feel like many people buy really beat up Goyard totes on the pre-loved market and get them repaired, so I was just surprised with this experience.
