Gold allergy - how common is it?

I think it's probably something else if it's not consistent. And I wouldn't plate it since you paid for RG. Can you return the chain? Or is this a necklace that's one piece?

I think I can return or change the chain as it's not fixed on the pendant. What I think is crazy is that I wore this necklace for a few months without any problems. Today I tried wearing it but my neck is hurting all the time. But again, no rashes or anything - that can't be a real allergy then, right?

However, I was considering buying a butterfly necklace in RG where the chain is affixed to the pendant and now I'm wondering whether it would be better to buy it in platinum, just to be on the safe side.

Do you like it in RG more than in platinum?

And it sounds like it's just that chain which bothers you... would it be possible to switch to a different RG chain and see?

Sometimes I've one cuff which irritates my skin and I realised it's the way it sits when I push it far down my arm. So now I've switched the sides/rotated it and it no longer irritates that area - not an allergy, but just constant rubbing raising a small weal in that one area.

I actually like it more in RG than in platinum, but I would want to enjoy this necklace. The problem is that with this necklace I couldn't switch the chain because it is affixed to the pendant.

Ladies, if I buy the butterfly necklace in rose gold and get skin problems after a while and can't exchange it again, would it be easily possible to coat it in platinum, rhodium or something else?

I'd like to try it in RG but don't want the necklace to be wasted if I can't wear it because of the gold.

I dont know if Tiffany will plate it for u, but to be really honest, if u think u have an allergy to rg, I'd just go for the platinum bcos if u plate it the plating will wear off after a while too. Just my personal opinion.

This is the problem; I don't know if I have an allergy to RG. I just know that my neck is sensitive to RG necklaces, but this has only been this way for a while.

If you plate it, you'll lose that pretty RG colour and it'll be WG/silver coloured in the end, and wear away with time, so you'd have to replate...

Frankly, I think it'd be simpler to go with the PT just to spare your poor neck!

Though if it's a new problem, perhaps you could delay the purchase and see if it does get better with time - perhaps it's a neck cream, a scarf or perfume irritating the skin...

This is what I thought as well, especially since I only have problems with the chain and not with the pendant that is also RG. Maybe it's simply something else?
