Global network of authentication service?

I also agree that there is a potential role for this type of service, but am at a loss as to how it would work. As an "authenticator" here (I am reluctant to use that term as I have no special powers beyond the many others here who also scrutinize, own, and know H bags), I think Roxane makes a good point that they time/money issues are such that it is just a lot easier for some to just pop in and out of the Authenticate thread, when it suits us, when we have time, without obligations. Goodwill, yes. Profitable? Likely not.

And the authenticator would probably be required to carry insurance in the event a fake bag were to slip through. Depending on the number of bags one hopes to be hired to authenticate per year, adding a portion of that cost (if one could get such insurance) to expenses (travel and time), plus the general fee makes it interesting to ponder how much the typical authentication would cost.

I am furious at people who pass of fake bags as authentic and people feeling so let down when what they bought was not what was advertised.

Is there out there a service that one can subscribe to that will go round and inspect the bag or a bag agent that you can employ who - for a reasonable fee, can authenticate the bag before paying?

I mean if you buy a car or a house, you'd spend money getting it surveyed right? So why would you buy a $10,000 birkin on "trust"? Or pay huge premium from "recognised" re-sellers?

Oh please this is simply ridiculous ! You know very well that this business has nothing to do with cars or houses.
YES, it is indeed about trust...trust your seller, trust your own opinion about what you see on pictures.
If you cannot trust the seller/item, for any reason.... DO NOT SEND YOU MONEY. Periode.
