I don't know if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything in a search.

As many of you know, I purchased my first H scarf (a BDG) in Toronto last week. :yahoo: The lovely SA put me into the H database. I'm sure that one of the reasons they do this is to keep track of how much I spend.

My question is: If I were to purchase something at another Hermes outside of Canada, would they ask for my phone number and be able to pull up my file in order to record my purchase?

The reason why I am asking is that I would like to purchase a Birkin in the future, and I have learned that it is easier to obtain one if you have a relationship with an SA or with a store. If the answer to my question is "no" then I would try to make purchases at the Toronto store only.

Any ideas? Thank you ladies!

If you can find an SA that is good to you, loyalty can go a long way. To answer your question, I am not sure if they cross borders, but I highly doubt it. Their systems are not exactly nimble.

I don't know about tracking spending, but even if they do, I don't know if that would help you build a relationship with the Hermes store you wish to purchase from. That being said, if you happen to see something you like in another Hermes, then by all means purchase it. Or you could perhaps do what I like to do: call my SA and ask him if he can get something for me. That way if you see something you like in another store, you will still rack up "brownie points" with your SA.

With that being said, I think the relationship is more important than the dollar amount. If they see you often and know you appreciate the brand, that certainly goes a long way.

Loyalty to one SA is definitely a plus, not just to get a Birkin but to have an "ally" when you are stalking a hard to find item. For example, once I called mine looking for a previous season scarf and her computer showed that they were sold out. She searched their storeroom and found the scarf even though it wasn't in their system. On the other hand, if you're traveling and find something you like at another store, I've learned to grab it when you see it because you may not find it again! I just try to make sure the bulk of my spending is with my SA, and try to make my major purchases through her. But I don't hesitate to buy at another store if I'm there and they have exactly what I want. If she knows I'm shopping elsewhere, she's never said anything , nor has she acted any differently.

I don't think they are able to call up the customer database cross-borders.

I agree with the rest - it is more about your relationship with the SA rather than the dollar amount you spend with H. If your SA knows she/he is the first choice whenever you want to buy something, they will tend to reciprocate with items you want (be more willing to search for items or offer you items etc).

Very good advice ouija and pyrexia and everyone... Thanks!
I see that it is important to build a relationship with a SA and it's not entirely about the
$$$... I'm not going to be buying tons of Hermes but I think my SA will understand that I love Hermes, understand the value of an Hermes item, and appreciate the brand. I will be sure to do all my transactions with her in the future.

It also helps to call or stop in every few months (or more :graucho:) to look around and ask questions about leathers, scarves, whatever, even if you don't buy. Just so she remembers you by name. Funny, though, the thing that made my SA remember me is the fact that I had a baby and bought some baby booties from her. Not that I'm suggesting you go that route at all! :D

While I advise you to do as many of your transactions with her as possible, if you see something that you like while travelling, just get it! :D Some stores may never get certain items or you may never get them unless you are a VVIP, so if you do find it in another store I would urge you to just get it. We are, afterall, the consumer, and should not be dictated where to buy!

hi everyone,
is there already a thread on this topic? my search didn't uncover one.
anyway, i found (it impressive, i must say, to learn) that when i shopped at an H boutique overseas (I live in the U.S.) I was a recognized customer in their computer system. i hadn't shopped there in over 4 years and understood they see my records from U.S. purchases.
has anyone found this already?

I wast told by US associate that she could see my purchase in canada...

Canada in store cannot see the US in store, for sure. As well, anything you purchase via the website, it's a different account from your in-store purchases. So in Canada, I have (at least) 2 accounts: one for Canada in store, and one for Canada website purchases.

When I log into my online account personally, I've shopped both the Canadian website as well as the US website, and I can now see orders from both countries' websites combined. That only happened very recently (like within the last month). I've been told that Canada in-store can see my Canadian website purchases, but not my US website purchases. I guess that must be coming, because it doesn't make technical sense that I can see it combined, but they can't?

I can't speak for the US in-store seeing Canada in-store purchases. When I was at the Madison store, I think they had to call the Canadian store to find out my purchase history.
