This is also wrong. My cc was issued in euro, why they refunded in GBP and then exchanged to Euro?

I never use Amex for overseas purchases as they are suckers at exchange rate. More than other banks when you make purchase and less when they refund your tax.

I have tried using different master and visa card by different banks on the same day purchases to compare. You can try to check their exchange rates to compare if it's your first trip. Max up the credit limit and just use that card.

There's a certain credit card from where I come from, the bank offers 1% rebate on overseas purchases.

I did not use AMEX for my H purchases in Paris. I have used either VISA or Mastercard and I got back my refund in my local currency. It is not stated as € in my credit card statements.

I think someone in the forum mentioned that H paris does their own refund (not via global blues). Some one can correct me if I'm wrong. Could not exactly remembered but I think I did not received any global blue forms for the H purchases. It's a long receipt with HERMES printed on top and the envelope is addressed to SERVICE DETAXE GROUPE HERMES with a Paris address (happened to keep the spare envelope H gave me).

So sorry that this happened ... Hope you manage to get a satisfying answer from H or AMEX about this...

is this a recent thing? we use amex whenever possible, but i didn't chk our statement after we got bk from europe :( i will def use mastercard next time!!

^ It was exactly a month time for me. Custom stamped & mailed out before flying out CDG on Apr 2. Global Blue credited to my AMEX on May 2. HTH!

Gosh. Then mine is taking longer than the usual if the norm is 1 month. I mailed out on the 20th April before flying and I have yet to receive my tax rebate. Tried calling but there isn't any records of anything.

I guess I can only wait? :confused1::confused1:

On the detaxe copy that's attached to your FSH receipt there is the e-mail as well as your file #. if you are really worry about that, you can try to e-mail to check. But I would give at least 6-8 weeks window. I think they are pretty busy these days because they supposed to reply my email within 5 business days, but not after 9 days. There must be a flood of detaxe refund in April. HTH!

Thanks Ceci for your reply. :hugs:

I didn't know there is a file # to the receipt. I had learnt yet another thing in TPF today! :D Guess I'll just wait till the end of this month. Judging from the reveal threads, I guess they do have lots of detaxe refund to process! :graucho::graucho:

I am not 100% sure. Maybe you can contact the person I listed above to reconfirm. Let us know what they say.

Called Global Blue today and asked. They said because the credit card I used is Amex and Amex has requested that all refunds are first to be made in GBP, so Global Blue paid in GBP and then Amex converts GBP to Euro to credit to my credit card. Thus, Global Blue will take some commission for payment made in GBP, and Amex take some comission to convert GBP to Euro....:tdown::tdown::tdown::tdown::tdown:

I asked where I can find this term. The customer service said they could not find this term in the refund form either and asked me to contact Amex directly. :confused1::confused1:

Serious? Gosh. Well, at least you have gotten your refund. I'm still waiting. :shrugs::shrugs:

i think banks want to earn from the exchange rate difference. for my country, it's stated on the reverse page of credit card statement that foreign currency transaction (if not in USD) will first be converted to USD before converting to home currency. It used to be direct conversion from foreign currency to home currency. The change happened last year and it applies to both Visa and Mastercard. Hence, the conversion rate for using credit card is worst than before. I try to avoid using credit card overseas where possible. But for such a big ticket item like Hermes, I doubt we can avoid doing so.

Seriously. We could all file Global Blue as they didn't make the terms to customers who are going to use AMEX. I peronally don't think there is anything to do with AMEX because AMEX can refund EURO (before converting into local currency of the card holder) through PremierTaxFree. I had refund with my Chanel purchase with no problem. It is GLobal Blue who just wants to make some admin fee when they covert € into £ to credit to AMEX. I'm sure AMEX will take € directly from Global Blue. Let me call my AMEX to reconfirm of there is any agreement between Global Blue regarding the £ as only detaxe refund currency. I'll update later.

Yes, I received in British pounds also, and it is crazy to look back for exchange rates and the small amount AX charges, for example, 2% exchange service charge.
I have to look again how much exactly was charged over the AX bill, but I do realize this is a problem. Visa &master for sure will be better.
