I have the option to choose between a Geta in Black or Della Cavalleria in Gold.

Could you please share your views and experience on the bags (pros, cons, personal preference etc) to help me choose between the two? Much appreciated.

I had the opportunity to purchase and examine an etoupe getta at NBS in London when it came out in 2022, and I declined the offer. I prefer and had already purchased a craie mini Della cavalleria at Madison in NY, in 2021. I believe a Della cavalleria elan is coming out. If you prefer the EW orientation of the Getta, you might consider that one. I don’t know the measurements, but its proportions are more rectangular And streamlined than the mini, and closer to the Getta in shape. The DC elan strap is attached along it’s sides, like the geta. I dislike this strap placement in a long EW oriented bag, and found the wide geta strap particularly ungainly. I have a feeling that with prolonged use, it would not stay on my shoulder, but a lot of bags don’t. (Which is why I prefer crossbody these days). I find the slightly squared shape of the mini DC more flattering and the strap more accommodating for crossbody. Though it is deep, the proportions are really cute, and the oversized HW adds to that appeal while still being a bit under the radar. The depth should not be a problem if you like the mini lindy which I think gives the feeling of jutting out too.

I am not crazy about the Getta H hardware. In general I find the aesthetics of the mini DC more pleasing. In terms of capacity, both hold quite a bit. Perhaps a capacity between a mini chanel and a medium. Bc the mini DC is more square than rectangular, I can rest my valextra universal sun glass case on top. I like the way the back pocket and interior pocket of the Mini DC are designed. They are practical and sleek. I do believe the Getta is more popular than the mini DC, and that my view is a minority one on TPF.

I saw a DC elan at the Madison opening though officially it had not come out. I posted that in the DC thread. Also, it is a small matter, but I rarely wear my black bags. I find the etoupe, etain, craie, and gold leather more versatile and a bit more modern. I prefer phw, though, and it seems gold HW is the current favorite.

I wrote a different type of comparison between the two, post 42, here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/hermes-geta-thread.1049743/page-3

I posted a pic of the DC elan in post 208 here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/hermes-della-cavalleria-bag.1040521/page-14

ETA: I don’t know if it’s called a DC elan. It’s just what the shape suggests. It also reminds me stylistically of rhe chaine d’ancre to go. I am not a fan of that one either, and I generally love the chaine d’ancre motif.

ETa: just saw that @Prada Prince posted at the same time. I agree. The Getta reminds me of a bus. I would say, you have to see and play with them in person to decide. When you test out the DC, be sure to click the lock mechanism down fully. :)

I don't own either, but if I were to pick one, I would go for the Della Cavalleria.

The stirrup buckle detailing is a fitting tribute to the equestrian heritage of the brand, and the shape feels fresher compared to the Geta, which is, to me, is just another typical flap, with a canvas strap, rather than a leather one.

I'd actually really love to get hold of the new Della Cavalleria Elan when it finally appears in stores.

I don't know, there's something about the Geta that turns me off it, I don't know why it reminds me of the side profile of a bus for some reason.*

Edit: Funnily enough @880 's reason for loving the DC mini, re strap placement is exactly why I prefer the DC elan. I tend to carry my bags on the shoulder rather than cross-body, and the way the straps are placed on the DC mini wouldn't suit me well, as the bag sorts of hangs off awkwardly at an angle when I tried carrying it on my shoulder.

So that's something else to consider, as to whether you would prefer to carry your bags cross-body or on the shoulder.

Your post points out the problem. All feedback will be personal preference.

Wife loves the Geta and does not like the DC. The Geta is a casual bag while the DC is more structured. She prefers the minimalistic features of the Geta and doesn’t want the large hardware on the DC. Geta is also a true cross body bag. The DC rides higher. Wife doesn’t like that the DC’s strap forces the hardware to be on the outside (issue with Geta as well though the hardware is very muted). The wife has a Constance 18 that provides all of what the DC does, so she thinks they’re too similar to want one where the Geta is different. For the size of the Geta, it holds a great amount of things. Wife couldn’t get all of the stuff she was carrying in the Geta into the DC when she tried it.

All personal preference. Very different bags. You’ll need to decide which you would enjoy better in daily use.

@880, @Prada Prince , and @cravin , thanks for all your views, info and suggestions.

I did not relate the Geta to the side profile of a bus before. Now that @Prada Prince you mentioned it, I can totally see it

@880 I will go through the thread links you shared later today.

I am currently leaning towards the mini DC , mainly because of the leather shoulder strap, the lovely buckle and the look as well. I need to decide by Saturday so I will give more thoughts to them and make a decision when I try them on. Thanks again and will keep you posted.

I had a similar dilemma between a Vert Fizz DC in Epsom or black Geta in chèvre and picked the Geta, for the reasons below:

  1. You don’t mention the leather options but given the options available to me I preferred chèvre over Epsom. Score 1 for Geta.
  2. Vert Fizz is a fun pop of colour but I felt I’d use a black bag more. Score 1 for Geta.
  3. I understand the equestrian heritage, however for me the buckle of the DC is too Gucci-esque (don't shoot me, I love Gucci but their bags aren’t the same league as H). Score 1 for Geta.
  4. Both bags are easy to use, but the Geta holds marginally more. This was a draw.

Overall, I’ve been really happy with my choice, but you won’t go wrong with either, have fun deciding! Please let us know which you get.

Apologies for the delayed update … there were a few interesting things happened before I managed to decide on the bag I got.

I couldn’t get to the store to see my SA the weekend after my original post so I had to rearrange the appointment.

When I got to the store, I tried on the mini DC because that was the bag I was leaning more towards. I love the buckle and the adjustable leather strap but to my surprise, the bag did not sing to me and/or it did not suit me. I adjusted the bag strap to the length I normally wear a crossbody bag but the bag sticks out quite a lot on my frame. My SA let me tried on a black mini DC to see if I feel the same, and it did.

I moved onto trying the Geta, which I then discovered I liked it - a lot! It is roomy and casual, and I really like the magnetic closure (it was quite fun when I opened and closed the flap the first few times ). If I didn’t have 2 other black Hermes bags already, I would have gotten it straight away! I said to my SA I would rather wait for a different neutral colour one.

Fast forward about 3 weeks, I tried on the Geta in Etoupe and bought the bag! Looking forward to start using it soon. Yay!

Thank you for reporting back! This is the kind of story reminds us it really doesn't matter what others like. Buy a bag that matches your style and one that you love. Enjoy your new bag!

Congratulations on your new purchase! I'm glad you found what works best for you.

Hope to see mod shots soon!

Last year, my wife was interested in acquiring the DC bag and was presented with an opportunity to do so. She was pretty taken with the bag; however, she did express some concern that the hardware of the bag made it somewhat heavy, As a result, she decided not to buy it in the end.

@A.Ali , thanks for sharing your wife’s views on the DC bag. That’s helpful for anyone considering this bag.
