Someone told me once that Gemma isn't considered a beautiful woman in Asia, given the idea of beauty there. I was curious if that was true. I think she's beautiful personally but it's not always about her physical looks, if that makes sense? She has a certain poise and elegance that makes her stand out to me moreso than her actual face.

I don't know about your first statement. I don't know in what universe Gemma would not be considered a beautiful woman. However, for the rest, I get it. For some it's the intangibles that elevate their physical beauty. IMO, Gemma has the combination of it all--poise, elegance, grace and her physical features.

That is true. She wouldn't be considered beautiful maybe not even pretty. She doesn't have the ideal asian aesthetic appearance which is very different from a n ideal western aesthetic. It should include a small heart shaped face, a small narrow nose with slightly curved bridge, large eyes, small thinnish lips and very pale glass like appearance skin. That's why if you look at korean kpop and actresses they tend to have a similar look. They don't like strong jawline or prominent cheekbones on women. Featues have to be soft. They get very similar cosmetic surgery. Getting that heart shaped face is pretty popular procedure. It is the same in China.

I could believe it for Lucy Liu, whom I’ve heard the same thing re: not beautiful by Asia standards.. but I’m not buying it about Gemma. Can’t imagine anyone would say she’s not a beauty..

I could see how the two would be similar. They're both pretty but maybe a "normal" pretty for Asia and in some countries, I feel like a lot of girls who look like Gemma naturally try to look like a Kpop star through cosmetic surgery or makeup. Like really light skin, more oval face, double eyelid, etc.
