Garden Party 36?

Hi Pineappleminnie! Thanks for getting back to me~ Ooh lovely! how was it in leather ? Do you love it? is it heavy as you put things in? I adore the canvas casual look of it, but understand how it can get dirty. Still sitting on the fence for this one, but we'll see. thanks again!

I love the GP’s leather. It’s easy to clean. The size 30 in leather isn’t too heavy. It fits my everyday essentials - wallet, key holder, work keys, hand cream etc. Size 30 doesn’t fit a laptop though (and I knew this beforehand, so if I need to bring my laptop, I’d use my Neverfull MM).

I saw the size 36 in canvas in the store. What I didn’t like was that it didn’t have inner pockets. Just a big tote with no compartments at all. If you are one of those who puts everything into individual pouches, then maybe you wouldn’t mind. I am not one of those people. The leather version has a pocket with zipper on the inside.

But, if you are looking at size 36 all leather version, it may become quite heavy with stuff in it, as others have mentioned here. The bag itself empty is already quite heavy. So to me, it’s not practical.

Hi everyone, has this bag been discontinued? Or is it just not available on the website and if I go to the boutique, it will be available? Thank you!
GP 36 is still in production. It occasionally pops up online. With the current supply issues, no way to know if your local H has any in stock unless you go in and ask.

Wanted to voice my opinion as I'm the proud owner of a Garden Party 36 gold full leather since one week.
I also bought it as an under radar work bag and I was SO impressed by how light it is compared to my Birkin 25! I'm petite and it looks so elegant on me and I find it super light for a leather bag. Also it fits so much and for me it is just perfect. I also looked at the canvas version and I found it a bit windy for the $$$...

Can you share how it is in term of keeping shape? Or is it a soft bag that could benefit from an insert? I didn't know about that bag... Put my wishlist in for a Birkin 35 instead but feel like the Garden party could be a workhorse and so so useful for daily office life and much more under the radar !!

Hi!

I rehomed my GP 36 in all leather so I wanted to share my experience.

1. The weight was the biggest factor for me letting it go. I also bought it as a work bag, and if you stuff it with all the things you mentioned, it will be quite heavy. If you only plan on carrying it from your car to your office, it may be fine, but if you have to carry it around, not having a shoulder option is very inconvenient. In the summer, I could carry it over my shoulder, but it looked quite odd, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

2. I’ve never owned a canvas version so maybe someone else can chime in, but it seems to show wear pretty easily.

3. The GP 30 won’t fit a lot. It didnt fit my computer, which is why I opted for the GP 36.

I hope this helps
Hi you didn’t mention which leather. Was it Epsom, Country Cowhide or Negonda?

I’m really struggling - I’m 5 ft and bought a GP 36 in all Negonda leather in December in Etoupe so super classic all around. I have used it a few times and it’s still in beautiful perfect condition after for several trips (day trip or for work) so this bag is a workhorse. However, when I used it to the extent of the size (with my laptop and actually using up all the space for work things) it is SO HEAVY. Like it feels like a ton of bricks with my laptop in it, and I can’t even put this over my shoulder to help me with the weight. But I love the bag, the quality… should I sell it?! It’s tough because I love the bag, but the weight is so off-putting. I have tote bags from Tory Burch that serve the purpose of holding my laptop and the straps actually work over the shoulder and feels nowhere near as heavy.

I also have a canvas 30 that I use more as a daily bag and have zero issues but I would never be able to use this or travel or work.

If you can't use the bag, then it won't work for you. Everyone is different, and everyone responds to weight and carrying loads differently. What you don't want is to get back or shoulder problems from a bag. No bag is worth that.

I am your size and my GPs don't bug me, even full and with a laptop (I do wear mine on the shoulder though) - but that doesn't mean you should grin and bear it (I tend to use a lot of bags that folks consider heavy!). I would accept that this is not a perfect work bag for you. Maybe you can use it as a shopper and put very little in it?

FWIW I don't think Hermès has made a GREAT work bag as yet. There are some beautiful briefcases (SaD, Victoria briefcase, etc.) but few shoulder bags that accommodate laptops. The GP PM (36) is the closest.

For me I don't mind my 36 even with laptop because I carry it by hand or crook of arm. What I can't do is heavy shoulder bags. Everyone is different and there are plenty of great beautiful bags that will work for YOU!

I think GP 36 canvas will hit your sweet spot. Maybe look out for all black canvas for work instead. I’ve tried leather GP36, it’s heavy even when it’s empty.

I have a Gold Garden Party 36 in Negoda leather. If I fill it up with my laptop, water bottle, notebook and wallet, it does get really heavy. I usually only wear it on my arm so it doesn’t bother me as much as a heavy shoulder bag would. I love how classic the bag is and how much it fits so I love it but I am mindful of what i put in it to not weigh it down even more.

If you find yourself overlooking or dodging the bag, you may want to reconsider rehoming it. But if you still love wearing it, my vote is to keep it.
