Which one should I get one?

  1. Garden Party 36 - full leather version
  2. Garden Party 36 - canvas version with leather trims
  3. Garden Party 30 - full leather version
Background info:

I am leaning toward the full leather version because it is easier to clean. I am looking for a work tote, which can contain my laptop. My current laptop is the 11'' MacBook Air (yes, I have had it for 7 years and this model has been discontinued). I may buy a new 13'' MacBook Air (but not anytime soon, unless my current MacBook breaks down). I am 5 feet tall. I want an understated tote for work, that's why I am considering the Garden Party. I have a Neverfull MM, and I use it every time I need to take my laptop with me. The Neverfull MM is my only tote now. I want to continue keeping my bag collection minimal. I live in a city, where square footage is at a premium.

Questions:

1. Is the Garden Party 36 full leather version heavy? Realistically speaking, if it is heavy, then it's a "no" for me. For example, the Celine Luggage tote medium is too heavy for me. Hopefully, that gives you a reference .

2. The Garden Party 36 - canvas version is obviously lighter than the full leather version, but will it look worn quickly? I am guessing the canvas material is difficult to keep it clean.

3. Is the Garden Party 30 too small as a work tote?

Hi!

I rehomed my GP 36 in all leather so I wanted to share my experience.

1. The weight was the biggest factor for me letting it go. I also bought it as a work bag, and if you stuff it with all the things you mentioned, it will be quite heavy. If you only plan on carrying it from your car to your office, it may be fine, but if you have to carry it around, not having a shoulder option is very inconvenient. In the summer, I could carry it over my shoulder, but it looked quite odd, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

2. I’ve never owned a canvas version so maybe someone else can chime in, but it seems to show wear pretty easily.

3. The GP 30 won’t fit a lot. It didnt fit my computer, which is why I opted for the GP 36.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks so so much for your reply!! You really helped me narrow down my choices. I’ll either get GP 36 canvas with leather trims version or all leather GP 30.

Weight of the bag really matters to me. If it’s too heavy, then I won’t use it = a waste of money.

I just talked to my local H store. All leather GP 30 is not available at this time :oh:. All leather GP 36 is available though. BUT, since it’s an expensive bag, I am not going to buy something that I know I won’t use much. Let’s see how the appointment goes in 2 weeks .

I let my all leather GP36 go last month, had it for 18 months and I think it used it once (or maybe twice?). I bought it without seeing it in real life and though the weight was less than what I had expected, it was still quite substantial. The drop of the handles were also a factor- yes, I could get it on my shoulder but it just looks awkward because the base sticks out too much and I reckon the purse looks much better hand held. Carry anything by hand or in the crook of your arm for a length of time and after awhile your arm will feel like it wants to fall off. I have a 13" Macbook Pro and it doesn't really fit properly, you kind of have to unbuckle the sides and it looks a bit awkward.

Is your neverfull canvas? If so, have you thought about the empreinte version? The proceeds I got from the GP fully funded a brand new one from LV and it works for me much better :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Hi, I have a Garden Party canvas with black leather handles/trim and I just love it. I do not find it hard to keep clean however I do only use it during spring/summer. I am petite and find the 36 to be not too large at all for my frame. Also the canvas does make the bag light weight as you noted which is nice. With that all said I am not sure how great of a work bag it would make. I think it would be not so comfy having a mac book in it and trying to carry it on shoulder and in crook of arm might get too heavy feeling even in canvas.

I did get a Goyard Artois MM to use as a tote and it is lovely. It has a zipper which I really like. However since you already have a LV NF you may not want another coated canvas tote. I think as someone else mentioned a empreinte NF may not be a bad idea.

It’s sooo good to hear that so many people have re-homed their GP 36 all leather. This helps me save money :biggrin:!!

Yes, my Neverfull is canvas. Actually, I have been debating between GP 36 and Neverfull MM empreinte in cream colour. But, it’s out of stock.

Goyard Artois MM is the other tote that’s on my wish list after GP . I don’t have access to a Goyard store. I inquired about distance sales, but I can’t justify all the additional cost. I’ll get the Artois MM when we resume travel.

I have 2 garden party 36 in canvas and I love them. I picked the canvas due to the less weight. I use daily and for travel. I carry it on my shoulder without any issue. It wears pretty well.

Good to know that you enjoy your GP in canvas. Looks like I’ll get the GP 36 in canvas, based on everyone’s feedback . That’s if they have a neural colour that I like. My appointment is in 2 weeks.

Sorry I missed this question in May. OP should be sorted but for others having the same dilemma, I'm completely of a different opinion:

I've had my all-leather (VC) GP 36 for 5 year and regularly take (or took) it to work, makes an excellent work-bag IMO. (Pre-Pandemic) I had to walk 15 mins either end of my train journey and change trains in between. Sometimes I go out after work, really doesn't seem heavy to me - not light, but nothing compared to a B and people carry those around all day. One of the reasons why so many that have both use their all-leather GPs far more.

GPs come in different leathers so it's not a simple issue of all-leather as opposed to canvas. If weight is an issue, go for the Negonda or Epsom leather.

Canvas models don't have an inside pocket.

All-leather in any colour looks smart but canvas is also a really good option, just go for a more work-suitable cws.

30 is quite a small bag.

I am in complete and total agreement with this. GP 36 is my under radar work bag. Fits a laptop. Doesn't seem heavy to me at all. Fits over my shoulder and to me it's not awkward unless the bag is stuffed. I'm petite and it looks fine on me; I get lots of compliments on my GPs.
I have GP36 aka GP PM in Negonda in Noir (my workhorse) and Gold and also a canvas GP in denim with black trim. The canvas is featherlight, yes, but it's a more casual bag and honestly I haven't used my canvas GP in years.
After years of use my Noir GP is super smooshy, too, so even more comfy to wear.
The 30 looks really teeny to me for a tote bag structure - I like the Birkin 30 but to me the TPM GP looks much smaller.

Hi Pineappleminnie, how was your appointment? Did you manage to get the GP 36 in canvas and started using it yet?

Hi Chilipadi, I actually got the GP 30 in leather (black) instead. I didn’t end up getting the GP 36 in canvas because it was a beige colour with gold trim. Yes, it looked very nice and neutral, but I don’t think the light colour canvas will last. It’ll get dirty real fast. I’ll stick to my Neverfull MM in DE as my everyday work tote. Definitely easier to clean than GP’s canvas.

Hi Pineappleminnie! Thanks for getting back to me~ Ooh lovely! how was it in leather ? Do you love it? is it heavy as you put things in? I adore the canvas casual look of it, but understand how it can get dirty. Still sitting on the fence for this one, but we'll see. thanks again!
