What is bonded leather? I've come across that description but have not had the chance to look it up.

This is what I found in Wikipedia:

Bonded leather, also called reconstituted leather or blended leather, is a term used for a man-made upholstery material made as a layered structure of a fiber or paper backer, a pulp made from shredded leather, and a polyurethane coating which is embossed with a leather-like texture. Related products, bicast leather or coated leather, are made by splitting, shaving, or grinding leather to reduce its thickness, and then laminating it.

Sound like pleather. I had a sofa recliner made out of the material, not good quality material. :push:

Congrats to the MCM Milla bag. I was gonna say get either LV bag or the MCM. :smile1:

Thanks for the info! Now I know I should not evenconsider a bag made from it.

Yep! Just saw that the small SDJ is now 400€ more expensive than a couple of months ago! Yikes! And one member at the SDJ thread said that now they use bonded leather! Eeeekk!

I think it's a major trend in the luxury industry, higher price and cutting costs to ensure bigger margins. Few of them are really driven by their passion and obsession for product quality, and all the big holdings are now thinking only about profits and share prices... that's really sad also because I was thinking YSL was one of the few sticking to their origin!! Still the design is wonderful! :p

It's really sad. Maybe that's what my mini SDJ was made off because only after 6 weeks the leather rubbed-off. It literally peeled off. I returned it.
