I was able to customize studs at tiffany to la pousette posts and backings. I can’t remember how much it cost, but it wasn’t a big amount.

Also, I’ve never bent an 18k gold post but I have bent some 14k ones. I think there are some more factors at play other than the gold percentage that determine how hard the post is, such as thickness/length, metal alloy composition, and how work hardened it is. In my experience, the more expensive earrings (which are in 18k or platinum) usually have thicker, stronger posts.
Thank you for the suggestions. I knew that Cartier will sometimes swap out the posts/backs but I did not realize that Tiffany will as well. I think they may have more options. I have bent the posts on VCA and Cartier earrings from sleeping in them, so I just assumed it was the softer 18k gold, but you are probably correct that specific alloys are harder or softer. That makes sense. Platinum has not bent for me, that is a good point, but the only pairs I have are regular posts that poke my skin at night. I will look into platinum options as well, thank you for the ideas.

I think maybe huggies, threadless, or screw flat backs will still be more comfortable than regular posts (even la pousettes) for sleeping.

Btw it’s easy to straighten bent posts with a basic chain nose jewelry plier. Just place the post so it’s fully between the jaws of the lightly closed pliers and then gently spin the earring. That will get rid of any bends in the post. If the post is no longer perpendicular to the stud, slide the stud to the flat part of the pliers near the hinge and rotate the earring there to regain 90 degree angle between the body of the earring and the post.

Thank you very much. You were so helpful. I will get some jewelry pliers, they sound like an essential tool to have.
My friend actually recommended the continuous hoops for daily wear as well, and I would agree after trying them. That’s what I have been wearing lately.

Tiffany has a lot of different backings that you can adjust. They can modify the earrings to have clip backs, squeeze backs, push backs, screw backs, etc. There’s also apparently an extra large squeeze back for people who have droopy ear holes who want to wear oversized studs.

You can also modify the length of the earring posts to be shorter, if you find that they hit things. And also modify the earring posts to be a little bit thicker or thinner for comfort, from what I know.

If you want even more security, Tiffany sells these silicone backings that you can put over the post as an extra security. Then you can put a squeeze back and then double it with a silicone back, which would also help prevent bending of the posts if they hit things.

Here’s a picture of what I mean. You can buy squeeze backs and add a silicone cover to protect more of the post.
