I think the easier way is to go on a trip to Japan.

I hardly step into the H stores in SG. I purposely planned a trip to Paris in the hope that I can find a Birkin (by luck / fate). I walked into FSH and they just have a 30 Gold Togo Kelly. So, that's what I got. My very 1st H. :yahoo:

I still want a Birkin...so I'll have to make a trip to Japan :graucho:

may i know when/
i was in paris during 21 -25 september, no birkins at all
nearly go out with empty hands
now waiting for my PO to arrive
When I was there about a month ago I was told that they are not allowed to place orders at the moment in FSH, but if you are looking for a combination they are expecting to come in over the next month or two, they will put your name on it and you can have it. In George V they told me that they do not keep bags for anyone and they just get what they get, put it out on the floor and it's up for grabs to anyone who gets there! I saw two croc Kellys and bought my own black Birkin there, and I was also offered a lovely white Birkin at FSH.

Good luck in your search-- definitely worth going every day.

i totally agree Japan is easiest place to get your first birkin
but the mark up is most expensive amount the world
almost 50% expensive than in paris
but you can get 5% tax refund immediately

i know many reseller cannot get exotic bags from Paris tends to buy them in japan

Coincidently, I was in Paris from 22 to 25 Sep and only walked into FSH ONCE in the afternoon on 22 Sep - that was when I got my Kelly.

OK, so there was no Birkin the entire week......at least I now feel a little comforted...thought that I was there at the "wrong" time...

^^

Birkins are not THAT difficult to get actually. It all depends on how you build your relationship with the SA.

Also, I actually went to H not thinking of getting a Birkin but accessories/wallets/anything that caught my eye. And I was offered my first B :yahoo:

I think the SAs can sense if you only want the more coveted Bs & Ks or appreciate the craftsmenship, quality etc etc of the entire brand.

I think somebody mentioned in another thread that there is a limit on the amount of cash they will accept in France. Will find said thread and report back!

H accepts cash up to 3000€. It's in the 'Those who purchased crocs directly from Hermes'- or words to that effect- thread, currently on page 10 in main section!

Actually it is not true. I recently purchased from Paris and paid more than 3000€ in cash which they're more than happy to accept it They will only require to make a copy of your passport. It was my last day hence I wanted to use up the Euros that I have, since I will have more Euros when I get my tax refund.

It all depends on your luck. I was in FSH on 22 Sept. I arrived at 10.30, asked several SAs and no birkin and they told me can't place order. Then went again around 2pm, asked the same SAs, no birkin again. I did asked them about placing order, most of them said no. Then I saw someone looking at the Birkin samples and the colour folder. I asked the SA why that customer can place order, the SA lied to me saying that customer was ordering something else. Then I went to another SA and pointed at those sample Birkins and asked her if they are for sale. She said no to me and asked whether I came in the morning. I think she recognised me, then she took out the colour folder and asked me which colour I am looking for. Then happy ending, I managed to placed an order and made full payment. Now I am waiting patiently. I think it all depends on your luck and smile to the SAs more.

Co-incidently, I was there at 2pm on 22 Sep...and I did saw 2 women looking at the samples and they seemed to be looking to place an order. Sigh...didn't occur to me to ask to do so!!!

How long do you have to wait for your Birkin?

I was very lucky then. However, not much choice I had when I placed my order as the SA told me orders for most colours are full.

She told me will be around few months to 1 year wait, I called few days ago and it should be ready to ship in 6 weeks time.

Really? This is interesting, as I didn't think that H made people pay for orders until they are ready... I placed my SO at FSH in January and wasn't asked to pay.

May be SO is different from PO. Mine is PO. After placing the order, the SA quoted the price to me and took me to the cashier. That's why I thought I need to pay. I didn't know that customers can choose either pay now or later. If I knew I can choose, I might prefer to pay later as the Euros were very strong.

I've just been to FSH recently and the almost all the SA is saying you can't place order anymore. "It's just not they way we worked" that's what they said. I'm still looking for my 1st birkin, soo excited. Is there any tips on how to 'penetrate' the SA in FSH??

They even told me no Birkin stock is available until Jan 2010
