First time selling with requirement to send to Ebay Authenticator -need advice please

Just do your label through eBay (so then the tracking information is automatically uploaded) and send it off. I think you're making this way more difficult then it needs to be. It will all be fine.

DO NOT WORRY about from the authenticator to the buyer, that's not your responsibility.


Believe me not trying to make this difficult - I know about the auto tracking upload if using Ebay, that is why I am trying to do it that way but having a few snags. I usually have just gone to the PO and not familiar with Ebay and printing label. I'm not a huge seller. I don't want an issue and then have someone say - "you didn't insure? what did you think would happen if the item got lost or damaged"? Or "you didn't use signature confirmation - haven't you seen that noted in the forum a million times that this must viewable or you aren't protected?" I can't just write off $1700 if something happens.

AND- I am not really worried about authenticator to the buyer ... not sure where you are drawing that conclusion from. Sorry if that is what I led you to believe. I am just concerned about the item arriving at the authenticator's safe and sound.

Really? - I wondered if anyone did this. I would assume an Authenticator would not want their reputation effected and be honest but what about postal loss? I'd love to avoid insuring and my bag is a fraction of the $ you have shipped out. What has your reasoning been if you don't mind sharing? Just playing the odds?
I have been selling on eBay since 2010 and the post office has never lost any of my packages (knock on wood). I always require signature upon delivery. I only had an issue once, a couple of years ago before ebay required authentication,when I sold a Chanel wallet for $850 and the buyer reported that she did not receive it. She also went on about how their building has a doorman and the package as not signed for. I shipped according to their policies and required signature upon delivery and eBay investigated and found that the package was signed for. The buyer then tried to deny the charge by going through their cc company. Again, the cc company investigated and ruled in my favor. The whole situation was a nuisance, but I wasn’t concerned because I did what I was supposed to. I am still selling on eBay.
 
I realize that it can be overwhelming and stressful to sell things online. If you don’t have one already I would get a kitchen scale so that you can weigh your package and purchase postage through eBay. There are some inexpensive ones on amazon. All eBay requires to purchase postage are the weight of the package and the dimensions. I usually save boxes such as amazon boxes and use those. You’ll also need a printer. It’s fairly easy. Good luck!

BB, the problem is with insured Priority Mail over $500. That insurance makes it impossible to add paid-for Signature Confirmation in USPS's metering system. I think we've discussed this before but I never heard of how this can be accomplished.

Have you or anyone else shipped a Priority Mail insured high-value item and still been able to add SC? Tell me how.

Also, there's no text stating "viewable online," is there? Is this folklore or fact? USPS can provide visible evidence of Sig Conf if necessary.

I've never used FedEx - does that company provide what you are saying BB - if you know?
I've used Fedex (twice) to ship high value and what was explained to me (and I don't really understand) is that Fedex shipments aren't insured but have what they refer to as "indemnity." I don't know what that is and how it differs from insurance but it does get a signature on delivery.

Both times, my large expensive packages reached their destination so I've never had to make a claim on their indemnity and don't know how difficult they are if there's an issue.

Hi all. Could use advice about this same transaction.... pkg moved on from authenticator and was sent to buyer. Fed Ex was the shipping company used by Ebay. The tracking is showing 2 delivery attempts that were unsuccessful - no one was home. Should I step in and ask the buyer if they are getting notices of delivery, inquire on any level or stay out of it? I've been paid. I am not sure what my role is in this instance. Thank you all.

No, you don't have to do anything. Whatever happens is between ebay and the buyer.

Once your item passed inspection and authentication, the rest is on ebay. If the buyer contacts you, refer them to ebay.
