Check out blue nile- my fiance (husband now) got my first pair there. They are .66 total, which is great for my abnormally tiny ears. I requested a round, bezel set pair and they are fabulous! The bezel makes them look bigger, IMO.

^Yes, bezel settings do make things appear larger. I just purchased a bezel set diamond solitaire necklace and compared a traditional setting next to a bezel setting of the same size stones. It was amazing how much bigger the bezel setting looked.

Alright, So I went and put a deposit down on a pair of 3/4 ct TW, but was just browsing Diamondstudsonly and saw that they have some options.

So price wise In-store set
Metal- 14k White Gold
Carat- 3/4 TW
Color- HI
Clarity- I1-I2 (but while at the store compared to SI2 and very very similar)
Setting- 4 prong Friction

I want screw type back, and I would need to pay for that which is $95 or the DM gave me a "deal" on the ESP for $104, and they would throw in the Screw back.

Total cost for in-store studs were
$1049.98 (Includes lifetime ESP)

DSO
Metal- 14k White Gold
Carat- 3/4 TW
Color- HI
Clarity- SI2
Setting- 4 prong or 3 prong (screw or friction)

This also includes
Free Holiday Gift (Inside out hoops Hand crafted in 925 Sterling Silver and set with .03 cttw of SI-3, H-I diamonds only a $79 value, but free is free, lol
Inside out Diamond Hoops)
Lifetime Warranty
1 year free insurance

Total cost for Diamond Studs online is
$899.00 Shipped

the differences are
Clarity is suppose to be better on the DSO diamond, and I get a free holiday gift that I can give her for valentines day with her bag.

or I can get a lifetime ESP at Kays for a lower clairty diamond and it is also more expensive ($150 more), they both offer trade-in policy, but it will obviously easier at kays, but I will cross that bridge when and if it comes down the road.

any thoughts???

as of now, i have the studs on layaway at Kays, while i think this thru, the only reason i put it down for layaway is that the studs we were looking at were on the bigger side of 3/4 ctw and had a very very nice clarity to them for "being" I1 I2

IMHO, I think you should get her diamond studs with better color and clarity. A lot of people argue that it isn't that important since it's on the ears, but I beg to differ. I think if I were you, I either shop around a little bit more (if you're on a strict budget) or consider paying more for better quality.

I just got myself some diamond studs on Blue Nile and I found them to have a really great selection and price (after doing my research, etc.). I went with colorless (E) and a signature cut to make sure it really sparkles especially since it will be right on my ears. Check their selection out on the website for other options.

IMO...I think that the ones from Kay are way overpriced for the cut and clarity that you're getting. Most jewelry stores are overpriced and you can do much better online. I would recommend Blue Nile for the earrings. They are much better quality than anything at that price range at a jewelry store. Just for today, Blue Nile is offering 20% off all pre-made diamond sets. The 3/4 set from them would be $1,160 with the discount. No tax with them unless you live in NY or WA.

I myself just went through all the research because I wanted a pair for my birthday. After reading wayy too much online about diamonds, probably more than I ever wanted to know! I figured out that most jewelry stores (ie in the mall) are never going to give as good of quality and it's not worth the money to shop there. Just my opinion, of course. :)

it seems the only difference in the blue Nile package is the metals 18k gold, instead of dso is 14k.

might stick to the dso and see the quality, they do offer free 2 day shipping.

I agree with everyone on the round, and it is more the size/shape/thickness of the earlobes rather then body size. I am under 5 feet and very petite and wear 2.5 ctw studs, my ears are on the smaller side but have very thick earlobes LOL. I have a picture somewhere on here of 3 ctw on my earlobes. I would go with 3 prong martini, they fit on the ear much better and they kind of nuzzle in the earlobe. Honestly at jewelry stores like Kays, I think you don't always get the best quality and there is usually quite a bit of markup. You need to consider the CUT because that is the most important factor before, color and clarity.

I agree. The "sparkle" is very important when it comes to diamond earrings. I was at a college basketball game a couple of weeks ago and there was a woman sitting almost half way across the stadium from me. I actually commented to my DH that her diamond earrings must have been amazing because you could see the sparkle every time she turned her head. Granted, they were probably very large, but the quality must have been amazing too.
I would get the best quality that you can afford. In general, I would say to stay away from Kay Jewelers too (no offense to anyone who shops there). I've heard good things about BlueNile. Also, do you have any small, locally-owned jewelers in your area?
