Me: I know it sounds semi-cheesy, but I'm waiting for my boyfriend to buy me my engagement ring as my first piece It's something I've been planning since I was a kiddie lol!

My Aunt gave me a pair of tiny diamond studs when I was born. In my culture girls get their ears pierced as babies and family members typically gift them with jewelry.

Doesn't sound cheesy to wait for fiance to give the first diamond. That used to be normal. when I was young, parents and relatives didn't give young girls diamonds and in fact young girls didn't wear diamonds--they got pearls.
My first diamond was from my now husband, then boyfriend, it was a chip set in a yellow gold heart, I still treasure this. When I got it, I knew he was serious and I was very excited!
Really old fashioned like my mom still think that men should give you diamonds. In the past year or two I have bought some on my own, not gifted by husband and she thinks this is shocking and insulting to him.

Aw! How sweet of your boyfriend (husband)! I don't think buying your own diamonds is insulting at all! As soon as I get that first ring, I want to buy a pair of studs for myself!
