First Birkin - help

Hello! I’m wanting to get my first Birkin. I’m torn between etain with rose gold hardware, etain with gold hardware, or gold with gold hardware. Is rose gold too trendy? Any other tips for a newbie? I would be purchasing from resellers

My first B was a 35 gold with GHW. Gorgeous, but I am biased.

Hi lovely fellow members,

I'm looking to purchase my first B. Since I do not live close to any H store, after much thought and a lot of reading on the forum, I've decided to go the reseller route. I'm looking for advise from my more seasoned members, whether its better to buy a more well loved and older but less expensive B or spend more and buy a newer one. I know there are some resellers who offer almost new B/K but at a premium. Also, what's the best time of year to buy when there are good sales. Your inputs will be much appreciated.

If you want the whole experience of luxury purchasing, go the store route. But if u don't mind paying premium on the exact specs you want, reseller is the only way. Price of course is highly dependant on the size, colour, and leather you seek. IMO stamp (age) doesn't matter much. Good luck deciding!

My advice would be to narrow down the size, colour you want (as in 1st and 2nd choice),leather and hardware-armed with those specs in mind look on the recommended resellers sites listed on the forum and see what's around.
For certain classic combinations you should be able to find a wide selection of condition, age and price on offer
then you can decide.
I personally wouldn't go the new with premium route but thats just me.

Thanks, this is really good advice. Your input is very helpful. There is something to be said for maybe not buying new from reseller the first time, just so I can get my feet wet first. For sure, the H bug is not going away soon! On that note, do you think its better to send my bag to the Hermes spa in case of any repairs or so some other reputable place where turnaround may be faster.

I would always go to the H Spa, there are two reasons for this.
1: if someone else fixes or touches your bag in any way Hermes will refuse to touch it if you need some other work on the bag at a later date (in effect it negates the 'guarantee')
2: if the bag were deemed counterfeit the H spa wouldn't touch it-so its another reassurance that your bag is authentic.
Having said this I always advise buying pre-loved from a reputable seller and to go belt and braces by having bababebi give it the once over.
I strongly feel for your first bag it would be foolhardy to buy a new bag from a reseller and riskier than buying pre-loved from someone like Annes Fabulous Finds.
Plus why should you spend 1000's over boutique price for someone to line their pockets when you could spend that money on a nice wallet from the boutique to go in your bag.

Hello fellow lovely H enthusiasts,

Wondering if anyone has tips on how to decide which B size is best. There are no consignment stores near me so it's difficult to "try" the bag on and guess the weight of it. I know it is nearly impossible for sa to offer the exact color and hw combination that I like, but of course I can always wait. Just want to know how to compare size.

TIA!

Depending on where you live, some boutiques have “sample” Birkins that they keep in store for people undecided about which size they would like to order for their special orders. Madison Ave. in NYC is an example of a boutique that stocks them.
