Does anyone own any outstanding pieces? Or have favourite designers with this stone? I really love Sleeping Beauty turquoise, I'm looking for inspiration for perhaps a birthday piece. I only know Tiffany, VCA for high-end designs. There is a plethora of Victorian/Georgian designs on the second-hand market but I find these less appealing.

I love Ippolita and own this turquoise necklace in yellow gold. Jennifer Meyer also does some pretty turquoise pieces. Turquoise is such a beautiful stone, especially in summer! Hope you find something you love for your birthday 
Have you explored high-end Native American (Navajo, Zuni, Pueblo) turquoise jewelry? Gem grade and natural at the high end, made in a huge variety of styles. It's normally set in sterling silver, though some is in gold. As you may know, the Sleeping Beauty mine is closed, and the market for Native jewelry loves matrix turquoise.

This ring was originally an Ethiopian opal that, unfortunately, got a crack.

I haven’t bought anything from them, but Raintree of Vermont has some stunning pieces with turquoise.
I couldn't help but go "wow!" as the website loaded, super original statement designs!
I LOVE turquoise and yellow gold. I purchased these gold and turquoise studs during a trip to New York a few years ago. It is hard to see from the photo but the turquoise is cut so that it has a unique look. I am always on the lookout for yellow gold and turquoise and it is not that easy to find.

Really good turquoise, esp from the late 19th century, can often be found at good value at certain auction houses. And not just Christie's or Sotheby's. My friends have bought some beautiful pieces at Horta, a Belgian auction house (www.horta.be). Some they've had reset, some they wear as it. Here is an example of a ring they sold:
