Thanks! It’s hard to measure my closet because it’s very oddly shaped. Instead of a square it’s more Z-shaped. It’s a big space but really weird and includes an area that goes under the stairs. I put a door on this space and use it for my hamper and luggage. It’s also like a safe room.Amazing transformations! Can I ask how big your closet is? What was the square footage before you started? I am hoping to transform a spare bedroom one day into a luxe display room for my handbags, shoes and jewelry. Do you recommend going with a carpenter or one of those closet companies?
AMAZING!!!Thanks! It’s hard to measure my closet because it’s very oddly shaped. Instead of a square it’s more Z-shaped. It’s a big space but really weird and includes an area that goes under the stairs. I put a door on this space and use it for my hamper and luggage. It’s also like a safe room.
However, the odd shape allowed me to create three distinct areas for clothes, purses, and shoes. So for usable area I’d guess it’s about 200 square feet. What worked in my favor is that the closet has 10 foot ceilings which allowed me to go all the way up to maximize space. Most updated closets don’t seem to do that which baffles me.
Personally, I’m not a fan of the closet companies. The prices are exorbitant and the materials are subpar. I had a company come in just to get a quote and renderings. I also did my bathroom so I needed a bathroom vanity and linen closet. The quote was like $40,000. For cheap particle board and limited options. And I never got the closet drawings.
I found my amazing carpenter when I did the laundry room last year. I was confident in my ability to design the closet cabinetry myself, find tradespeople to do the other work and buy any materials. Plus I was getting real wood cabinets not particle board.
Also, my carpenter literally did these huge cabinets in less than 10 days. But I had to schedule a painter, electrician, drywall guy, and wallpaper installer so everything took about 4 weeks. Despite the extra work, I paid less than half of what a closet company would have charged me.
And to NOT buy the same shoes repeatedly. I organize the shoes this weekend and it’s gonna be a mess.Amazing! I can understand how frustrated you were with the original, when you can see your items it makes it easier to put outfits together.
