NEW YORK (May 8) - Nearly two years after Star Jones left "The View" on rocky terms, the 46-year-old TV personality has criticized former boss Barbara Walters for writing about her.

Star Jones isn't happy about Barbara Walters' new memoir, 'Audition,' and not just because of the passages written about her. The former 'View' co-host is miffed that Walters has been "branding herself as an adulterer" in the book by revealing a past affair with a married U.S. senator.
n Walters' new memoir, "Audition," she discusses how Jones wouldn't acknowledge her gastric bypass surgery on the air. She also writes about Jones' lavish wedding, which wound up alienating viewers as Jones accepted gifts in return for promotion.

"It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character," Jones told Us Weekly magazine.

Jones' publicist, Brad Zeifman, said Jones wouldn't comment further.

Walters reveals in the book that she had a past affair with married U.S. Sen. Edward Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s.

The details about Jones are less juicy, but shed light on what happened behind the scenes on "The View" when Jones refused to publicly acknowledge the gastric bypass surgery she had in 2003.
Walters says Jones, who'd dropped 160 pounds in three years, changed her mind after telling Walters she'd talk about the procedure on the program. Walters says she didn't want to be the "poster child" for the procedure.

"I understood that, but it put us all in a terrible position," Walters writes. "It meant we virtually had to lie for Star, especially when she said again and again on the air that her weight loss was due primarily to portion control and Pilates. ... Joy (Behar), in particular, resented having to go along with the lie that implied that all one needed to do was sit-ups and ingest one cookie instead of two."

Jones confirmed her surgery last year in a first-person essay in Glamour magazine. She said she "was scared of what people might think," and "ashamed at not being able to get (herself) under control without this procedure."

why is she mad at her? Everything she said about Star was true. the gastric bypass surgery (it was yoga? LMAO who was she kidding), the bridezilla moment and accepting gifts.

I honestly don't think Star's medical issues are anyone's business. All people have the right to privacy in terms of their medical issues or procedures. Just because she is in the public eye she does not have to tell the world about what is going on with her medically. I think she could have just said, "I'd prefer not to discuss my private medical issues publically" instead of making up some story. I don't think that she should have been presssured to talk about it on the show if she didn't want to though.

I agree with both the above. Just because someone's in the public eye, they still have the right to their privacy. They should also not assume the public is stupid however, and come up with outlandish statements no one's going to believe.

I, for one, won't be buying Barbara Walters' new book (who the hell cares?!). And, even though I am NOT a big fan of Star Jones, I totally agree with what she said:

"It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character"

I've no respect left for either of them. Anyone remember the SNL skit about the View with all of them portrayed as pecking hens? Truer than anyone imagined...

Barbara is really trying to sell some books huh?!:nogood: I'm very surprised she decided to "dish the dirt".

Honestly, Star can't really be mad. This sort of things happens when you bring others in on your lie. She should have admitted the truth or declined to talk about the weight loss completely.

I'm pretty tired of both of them. Barb used to be what I thought was a legitimate journalist. She's lost her cred with me. As for Star lying about how she lost weight, thats a toughie cause even though her medical procedure is private, being in the public eye, if you are going to talk about your weight loss, then tell the truth! Otherwise, you are going to have overweight people out there wondering why they cannot lose weight the same way. Its a disservice to the fans. Its a TALK show. They are supposed to talk about issues and if she did not want to talk about her weight at all, then I would respect that. But for her to falsely go on and on about how she lost it is wrong IMO. She should have said nothing at all if she wanted everything to be private. The minute she opened her mouth about it, she had a responsibility to be honest.

I'm tired of the whole thing between Star and Barbara. Frankly, I'm tired of anything that has to do with "The View". I hate all the drama between the cast of the show. As for Barbara Walters' memoir, I wish she had been more discrete. I can't see any reason for her to have written this other than to cash in. I've lost respect for her. So much for the grande dame of broadcast journalism.

I, for one, won't be buying Barbara Walters' new book (who the hell cares?!). And, even though I am NOT a big fan of Star Jones, I totally agree with what she said:

I so agree and I laughed so hard at that Star quote. Babs has opened some really old wounds. How dare she bring up her past affairs up with the married congressman and anyone else. Everyone knows I am not a Star fan. She never brought up the weight loss on the show, everyone else. Star had to right to do whatever she wanted to with her body and not disclose it to anyone. I am sure she told her co-workers she did not want to share how she lost the weight. Star was put on the spot. All she wanted to do was talk about the wedding. Babs was catty on Oprah. That weight thing would not have been that big of a deal if it wasn't for that crazy Rosie. I am on Star's side with this. Did I really say that?

i dont understand why Star is mad w/ Barbara neither. Seems like everything Barb wrote was true?

i get that pp in public eye are entitled to privacy, but the degree of privacy depends on their role in the public eye...the hosts on the view talk about their person views daily! from cosmetics, health, dieting, politics, wut not..and there Star was, obviously representing plus size women, (as the only one plus sized back then) and Star always talked about hair, makeup, sheos, clothes, and all of sudden shes dropping weight like crazy and she doesn't want to talk about gastric bypass but she continued to talk clothes and hair and how shes dressing differently (smalelr sizes)? it seems like Star was perfectly fine w/ talking about her personal life- her wedding, her finance, everything was OK w/ her except her gastric bypass. it just seemed a bit contradictory to me.

i actually use to watch the view but i stopped around the time Star would do her "wedding spectacular segment" weekly..do u guys still remember that? each week, she would devout like god knows how many minutes talk about about how fancy her wedding was gona be, her dress had a segment, her invitation hs a segment..etc..it was waayyyyy too pretentious for me.

It's apparent that Star Jones is still bitter about losing her job at the View and just won't let it go and Barbara Walters is a big hypocrite. She did not have to reveal the affair and it's obvious she did it to sell more books! And Star Jones is in the predicament she is in today because of herself! She really has no one else to blame!
