Feel-crazy Handbag moment

That said, I always pay cash. Actually I am facing a few problems over here as most of the shops won't accept cash >2.000 Euros (LV around 1.000 Euros) but in this case I need to go to the bank around the corner, deposit the cash on my bankaccount and put it on a debitcard. Not funny at all and prevents me from impulse shopping.
In France you cannot pay for a= > €1000 item in cash. It's illegal.

I have been a handbag lover for most of my adult life. And by that I mean high-end bags really are my passion. I absolutely have more affordable bags, but I’m never satisfied with those. I’m always searching for that PERFECT bag and never find it. And I bore with my bags quickly.

Recently I was on a trip in Ireland where I brought my Fendi By-the-Way, which is a fave of mine. I couldn’t have felt more ridiculous tromping through bogs and even the cities there with a $1700 bag. It was especially silly on a ferry heading to a remote lighthouse. And it was raining constantly.

I starting feeling very silly and inappropriate and wasteful. Truth be told even in my normal daily life I’m mostly going from a run or the gym or doing errands. Yes I get into the city a lot, but I live in an area where bad weather occurs frequently.

I know what is most comfortable for me and my life is a smallish non-leather crossbody that is as light as possible. Also one that can handle the elements. I can’t do heavy, and I have always preferred crossbody though I will use shoulder, but it’s not the best.

I want to stop this craziness!! I want to move past this obsession. Thanks for listening.
get a chanel/or any other designer bag that can be worn cross body in a dark color patent leather .. here is mine ... it has rained on this so many times and it's still as good as new

also LV's canvas is sturdy and LV makes tons of different bags in their signature canvas ... don't sacrifice one or the other. you CAN have a nice bag that is also extremely practical

Like myself, you need multiple bags. There is not one bag that suits your purpose, but many. I have beautiful leather bags from Hermes, Celine, Mansur Gavriel , Chloe, and some, but I also have LV speedy DE which is my go to for designer non worry about, and some nylon Le Pliage bags. which are great for travel and rainy days. So you se there are many bags you need, not just one! Have fun.

In US, similar. Must use cashier checks, etc. Or fill in extra paperwork for cash payments.
(if very large amounts)
Keeps sources more traceable.
Yes. I think that the Swedish don't use cash in most places.
People told me this, too.
Even in Stockholm, everywhere I went took cash.

Hi dear Missagie,
I feel your pain. For the last 4 years I’ve been collecting Hermes bags like crazy. Yes, I do have the money. I worked hard, saved a lot and kinda retired to follow my husband around the world because of his international career.
What happened next is really disturbing. I’ve found myself in the countryside, baking and gardening :yucky:, surrounded by people that only carries recycled shopping bags. Okay, once a week I take the train to London so I don’t get mad. But, besides that, where could I possibly use my bags now? I mean, me and my bags are totally inappropriate for my actual lifestyle.
Next step, therapy, why do I need to buy bags? What does this mean to me?
Next step, drop therapy and now looking for a job! As crazy as this can be, I love my bags so much that if my lifestyle don’t support it I have to change it and that’s what I’m willing to do. Find a job so I can use my bags to work! The upside is that maybe I can make some money and then buy more bags! :giggle:

I have a similar issue.
I have a closet full of LV bags but I wear my Osprey backpack everywhere instead.
Take some comfort in that you are not alone!

You know, rather then feeling guilty, I believe we have to stick to what make us happy and my bags are what make me happy.

It's not uncommon in the US either. Most of the non-chain restaurants and shops I frequent won't accept cash for a purchase over a certain amount. I don't think I'd be able to pay $1100 in cash for something *anywhere* without getting my ID checked and probably photocopied. Fears the money is fraudulent and large amounts of money in registers make people nervous. My local post office won't accept a $50 or $100 bill if your purchase is under $25
