Are there more fakes out there of one vs the other (Birkin vs Kelly)?? Have you ever seen a really good fake croc kelly?

edit: I am by no means looking for a fake croc kelly, just wondering if they exist or if anyone has seen a really good one.

The reason I ask is that I am considering buying a gator kelly from an acquaintance that I do not know very well. I am going to see the bag in person this weekend and I am wondering if I will for sure be able to eyeball it if it is a fake. I have a birkin and kelly in togo but do not own any croc/gator bags. I have seen a few croc birkins at my local boutique but never truly up close and inspected. I think I am generally good at spotting fakes but after hearing about "really good fakes" on this forum I question if I am as skilled as I think I am. Yikes I would like to make the deal on the spot but really dont want to be taken for a fool!!! Help! What do I look for??

If you are seriously looking for a bag in the online market be sure and post it there first too.

GBL we keep cross posting. You will need to go the first post in the AT thread and get a list of the required pics and post them here prior to purchase. They will need to be sharp (use the macro) and big (as big as you can post).

I don't know how good your eye is - some of them would be difficult to pick, yes.

Can you ask your acquaintance to email you some pics before you meet with her? Then you can post them in the AT thread and I'm sure the ladies will be able to give you their opinions.

A croc bag is extremely hard to fake. Most fake crocs use leather with croc print/emboss on it, and you can spot it a mile away. Do fakesters even make fake croc bags with REAL croc skin? I'm interested to know too since croc is expensive, their cost of manufacture would be a lot higher. Even so, I would highly doubt it will look anywhere near the real thing because 1) even with real croc, the quality of the croc leather itself would be MUCH lower than the one that Hermes sources theirs from, 2) treatment of skin would be different as Hermes only buff theirs and don't glaze them, 3) it's even harder to craft the stiffer croc leather into a bag.

I have seen plenty of croco fakes in Seoul. Clearly fakes are displayed at street level and the so-called "class A" are hidden in secret locations.

A fake can only ever fool someone who has never seen/carried the real thing, and a fake is a fake is a fake! A "perfect fake" is still a fake.

BEFORE you look at the one you are thinking of purchasing, go to your nearest H boutique, tell them you are thinking of ordering a croc kelly in the future and ask them if you can see one even if it not available for sale. Look at it very very closely.

After that you should be able to distinguish the real product from the fake. Also post pics of what you are thinking of buying on the authenticate thread anyway. might save you both money and friendship!

^^ that's kind of what I think too. I mean pretty much everything I see in the "Hall of Shame" thread looks fake to me so I think I will know. I will take pics when I meet with her and post this weekend for the wonderful ladies here to help me out!

That would very likely be a futile attempt. I don't think any Hermes manager would allow that, unless the bag is in the showcase. And even then, you may be denied the opportunity to hold and touch one, if you don't have a relationship with the store.

I suggest you post the pictures in the AT thread for review.

If you have never owned an Hermes croc bag before, I think the chances of you knowing what to look out for would be rather slim. Sorry, but this is the truth.
