No brand. I'd start at a local jeweler and see if you can create a rapport and have them source similar stones for you. While they're doing that I'd acquaint myself w/ a few reputable online jewelers so you have something to compare.
I like to support local businesses personally plus I can have them also check prongs and clean it and hopefully have someone trustworthy to buy from later. If they cannot or seem not interested in giving you great stones for a fair price I'd certainly buy online.
Whiteflash and Brian Gavin are good places to start but there's easily several more. I personally wouldn't pay extra for branded stones that no one but you will ever know are "designer".

Great suggestions, OP!I wore plain studs for years, and just recently switched to halo studs instead. I love just that little bit of extra sparkle. I agree with Swanky regarding brand (or lack thereof), and Brian Gavin and Whiteflash are great places to start, though Blue Nile isn't a bad idea, either.
bumping this thread as I have some question around the same lines.
for everyday earrings...
would you say 1ct be a good size? smaller? .5 ctw too small?
I am looking at options for diamonds...
should I go bigger but more color 1.0 ctw with color : HIJ
or a little smaller .8 with color DEF?
help! my budget is not to exceed 3500$
Would you say go bigger or go for the better quality.
i would say go as big as you can while getting the best cut. I've never heard of someone feeling like they went too big, but i know "shrinking diamond syndrome" can occur and with the way prices increase i'd get the best i could get now.
