I thought I'd get rid of some and make a little extra money but I guess I'm just not very disciplined because all I do is buy more bags with the money. I try to rationalize this behàvior by telling myself I don't actually have more bags then I did before, and I'm not using any income to get more bags. I feel stupid.

Trying to avoid this. Going through a closet purge right now. I'm just donating everything. I have to remind myself I have to truly love it though in order to buy.

I do this every now&then. I moved last spring and sold dozens of cheap bags and bought a few that are a better quality - like a Mulberry Ledbury, a nice leather backpack, a Coccinelle Best crossbody etc. Recently I sold a Modalu wallet and a Mulberry bracelet and bought a vintage Dior coin purse and a Chloé Marcie small wallet. I'm moving up in the accessory world as it seems, and since I'm not rich and I don't have unlimited space for my bags etc, I have to make sure something goes whenever something comes.

I see myself as a constantly developing project; around 10 yrs ago I finally gave up wearing sneakers, jeans & sweatshirts and carrying a Nike/Puma/Esprit bag ALL_THE_TIME and got me a pair of skinny black jeans, a nice flowing tunic, red ballerines and a black Longchamp Le Pliage. My Mom didn't recognize me - she nearly panicked when I got in her car. She thought a stranger came in. :lolots:

Then there was the phase of nicer designs but the materials were still PU and nylon. I did get me a custom Le Pliage and a Mulberry Flight nylon bag which I thought were the highest I'd ever get. Guess was a brand above all brands for me.

Then, 4 yrs ago, I got my first real leather bag and it happened to be Mulberry. That's when I started to get more and more hungry; in came more Le Pliage, some Wilson's Leather, Adax, vintage Finnish quality brands like PT, Three Bags and Okay's. I gave up most of my bags from the previous era and got new ones. This spring, the rest of the PU and low quality bags went, as did 90% of Guess. I still have 3 of those left which I'm hesitating on selling because they're very practical when I don't want to appear like a viable target (for robbery/pickpocketing). Plus a wallet which serves my travel needs.

Now, it's gotten completely out of hand. I have 4 Mulberry bags, countless Longchamp pieces - both Le Pliage nylon and Cuir + other designs, Lumi, Modalu, Liebeskind and even those Dior & Chloé SLGs. And I'm not done. Starting to get hungry for an LV Clés and I'm afraid that's just a gate to bigger things...luckily, I have a heap of money tucked away in my closet in the form of my bags of the moment!

I can't say I think of my closet as money - I do sell many of my donate bin items online if they are in decent condition but it's not for much ($10-$30 range, then shipping eats into any remaining profits). I guess it could get you some money back, but not for much and for some effort. I find having a regular paycheck more secure for my mental being haha. But honestly for me it's not about the money, it's about the clutter...

Wow same here, I sold all my not so great bags like Nine West, Guess, ect but bought better bags and want better bags...I also just stopped wearing sneakers and now wear actual shoes haha.

I'm going through my closet right now and doing this. For bags, I've gone through all of them and have been selling most of my contemporary designer brand bags and some of my premier designer brand bags. I've been saving most of the money, but I'm also taking some of it and using it toward a bag or two and a couple SLGs that I've been wanting. I just used a bit of the money to get the LV Twinset. This way I'm filling some voids in my bag wardrobe while still cutting down on the number of bags that I own.

I have 5 sitting on my bed right now to go to a consignment store tomorrow. The only one I'm debating is an LV Montaigne Bowling Satchel. I'm doing this because I haven't used any of these 5 in probably at least 2 years. One I haven't used at all. Impulse Coach buy, 30% off with an additional % and there it sat in its dust bag for the past 2-3 years. I've got my two HG bags on the way from Yoogi's and while these would just be a minor blip in that damage, if I'm able to sell them I'm putting that money towards the pay-off of the two new ones. Plus, I'd like to think someone would be enjoying them rather than they're just sitting in drawers or on a closet shelf going unloved.
