I am curious. I recently bought a bag and was so shocked to be offered it I just bought it. I didn't even check the credit card until I was in the taxi. I love it, look at it occasionally but know in my heart I will never use it. I have never returned a bag before but the receipt says I can return within 3 months for an exchange. I feel nervous about doing this. It wasn't my home store so feels even worse.

I would normally be strident, take it back and exchange it but this is Hermes and returning a B probably isn't normal and it isn't as if you can choose another one. It isn't that straightforward. Someone else would love it and I would love something more hardy.

Anyone ever done this before?

NNNNNO, what am I crazy?
Now seriously, if you don’t feel the bag and can't see yourself with it you should change it. I would actually be more relived if it wasn’t my home store. You can go back and look for another color or style – I'm sure you'll find something you like but it's not that bad.
I know people who took back b's and everything was fine – they were warned about been offered the bag in the future but they ended up picking it eventually. If it's not the right time or the right bag for you don’t be scared – someone else will love it too J

Are you stuck with a store credit when you return it?

Don't worry about it, if this bag doesn't work for you, return it. That shouldn't be a problem. Way too much money if you are not completely happy with your purchase.
Ask them if they have other bags in stock, perhaps you can exchange it for something that does work for you ;).

I agree. If you don't love it, return it and take the store credit and use it towards something you LOVE. It's too expensive of a purchase to not be completely happy. Good luck!

I returned a birkin. They allowed me to exchange it for another one that was perfect for me.

I wouldn't give a second thought. If you know you won't enjoy it, return it. This isn't exactly a pair of socks we're talking about.

I've returned a birkin before. But you're lucky to have a 3-month return policy. In the U.S., it's 10 days, which IMO stinks.

I have. My SA totally understood. I got what I wanted about a year later. Return it. I would not keep it if I knew I wouldn't use it.

Thank you all for your very kind support. It's going back for sure. It was all such a shock and I think my senses were temporarily knocked sideways.

I will call on Monday and tell them I plan to return it and hopefully give them time to find something that I will use and love. This time I will be armed with colours, leathers, an honest acceptance of my current lifestyle and a good dose of common sense.

I think I've seen you sell items on eBay - why not sell it on there? I am sure if you only marked it up to include paypal and eBay fees the bag would fly out. It would be so cheap compared to most resellers. I personally wouldn't return a bag in the UK. But good luck whatever you decide to do!

I do sell on eBay. But they are bags I have bought from eBay and they haven't worked out or they are bags belonging to friends. That feels okay. That said, I did sell a new Constance Elan once in the way you described and it sold in an hour so your suggestion would work. However, I do want another one - just not this one and the best way of doing that is return it.

I was cautious/curious of what Hermes response would be as I have never returned anything before but after all your advice and strong support to return it I spoke to my local store yesterday and they were brilliant. A return is not a problem but a replacement is as they don't know when they will get more stock. This has taken the urgency out of my decision.

I am not a ditherer by nature and usually quite decisive but to me it is such a huge amount of money sitting in a bag it has to be right - actually it has to me more that right, it has to be handbag love, lust and desire in an orange box.
